(Archived) clarification regarding two factor auth

Is it correct that the folks at evernote refuse to allow two factor authentication unless the user gives them their cellular phone number?

Certainly, once the 2f authorization is enabled the user can then go into the account settings and switch over to google authenticator, but I don't see any way to enable 2f without giving the folks at evernote a cellular phone #.

I'm not clear on the necessity of the folks at evernote requiring a cellular # in exchange for the additional account security of 2f.
