Hello,

I faced a very unusual problem and I dont know how to restore it now. What happened is that my Windows system crashed so once I restored it, I copied all my files back to the usual directory to ensure my Windows systems as back as normal.

So my Evernote files were also copied to the C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Evernote/Evernote/

Now when I started the Evernote it all of a sudden started synchronizing (pls note I was using a local notebook earlier) and synchronized with my Android device. Now my android device had very less number of notes and what I see now that whenever I load my Evernote it only shows me the notes of my Android device.

My .exb file is already in the same folder as it was before and also when I open it a normal text editor I do see that almost all of my notes are available in that file but Evernote is not able to load them. I suppose it is because after the crash my account became a synchronized account and already got changed in the .exb file. Thats only what I suppose because my local .exb file contains all the notes it seems but Evernote is not showing them inspite being placed in the correct directory (C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Evernote/Evernote/Databases/)

Please help me.

Thank you.

First, Evernote does not change local/non-sync'd notebooks to sync'd notebooks.  In fact, local/non-sync'd notebooks simply cannot be changed to sync'd or vice versa.  You are informed of this when creating a new notebook & asked which type it should be.

Second, I don't understand what you mean by "Now when I started the Evernote it all of a sudden started synchronizing (pls note I was using a local notebook earlier) and synchronized with my Android device. Now my android device had very less number of notes and what I see now that whenever I load my Evernote it only shows me the notes of my Android device."  Evernote does not sync from computer/device to computer/device.  All sync'ing goes through the Evernote cloud.  You can log into the web client to see what actually exists in your account on the Evernote servers.  If there are fewer notes on your Android device than were there before, it sounds like you had some unsync'd notes on the Android device that were never sync'd to the EN servers & the cache on the Android device got cleared.  (This particular scenario is totally independent from restoring from an exb file in Windows.)

Third, did you confirm that the newly installed Evernote is actually using the exb file you think it is using?  Just because you put it in the same place it was on the old computer does not mean the new installation is using that same location, especially if the two computers are different versions of Windows (IE XP vs 7).  You should confirm where the newly installed EN's exb file is by going into tools/options/general tab.  This shows you what folder/directory the Evernote files reside in.

Hello,

Yes it is actually using the .exb file I mentioned. I already checked in the Evernote Options and the folder is the same as I mentioned and it is accessing the same folder- C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Evernote/Evernote/.

My problem is that I dont see my notes anymore in the Evernote when I use the previous .exb file. I am not sure if there is a problem with the file itself or some tags are added to it and thats why I am not able to restore my notes. However whenever i open the file in a text editor I do see all my notes in it.  So i am not able to understand what can I do in such case.

Thanks

I have moved/copied exb files from one computer to another countless times with success.  IMO, it really sounds like you're not using the correct exb file either b/c you didn't copy the correct one from the old computer or b/c the newly installed EN is not using the one you think it's using.  You should submit a support ticket.  (See my sig.)

I am using the correct .exb file but when I open it in the Text Editor what I observe is that it has all my notes (which were earlier on my Windows device) and to that the notes from Android device were added (both were in unsynced mode). Because of that the .exb file currently only recognizes the notes which were on the Android device and the later part of the notes are not shown . I am not sure if something can help by importing into a sql browser. I already raised a query to the support forum. Hope i receive some help. I tried several things but my notes are not shown in the Evernote.

One other thought.  Did you look in the Evernote trash for your notes?  Other than that, I can think of nothing else.

Hello,

Yes I checked it. I do not find it in Trash also. What i see from the Evernote logs is that it did a synchronize and after that time my notes have been unaccessible.

Thats why I feel that it all happened due to the synchronize operation which is i believe set by default in the Evernote and was not unset before starting after the windows crash..
