RandallI 0
I just installed the Evernote rich client (4.6.6.8360) on Windows 8. I tried closing a different application window using ALT+F4, like I often do, but I was surprised to see that Evernote launched instead. I want to get the default Windows behavior back for ALT+F4: When a window is active, ALT+F4 closes the active window. When no windows are active (i.e., Show Desktop), the Windows Shut Down/Restart/Log off dialog appears. Please tell me how to get back to the default Windows settings; I use that keyboard shortcut all the time. I want to continue using Evernote, but I need that Windows keyboard shortcut back. Thanks in advance! Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 12,075 Posted May 28, 2013 Level 5* Share Posted May 28, 2013 I don't think this is an Evernote hijack, and apparently MS themselves don't recommend ALT+F4 in Windows 8... http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/the-alt-f4-danger-in-windows-8/6f6f4e63-cf25-4199-bf09-86235b9fd965?msgId=1d6cf701-c7b5-4825-9603-0931a7765761 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/how-close-app Link to comment
RandallI 0
Thanks for the response! I figured it out: It was actually an issue with the keyboard I was using while the laptop was docked. The keyboard has programmable function keys, and ALT+F4 is a shortcut for "New." ALT+F4 works as expected when I use my laptop keyboard. Next step is to look up how to reprogram my keyboard so that it does what I want it to do. Thanks again! Link to comment
