Is there way to keep the highlighter tool turned on?

A student. Using EN on iPadOS. I have typed notes and I would need to highlight several non continuous words in a sentence. In older versions, it was a two step (Tedious nevertheless) process-select text and highlight. 
In V10: new highlight colours (love them) have made this a three step (Very tedious) process - select text, click on highlighter and select the colour. Is there way to keep the highlighter tool turned on?

Good idea. Like the format painter in Word. Double click (or more tedious ctrl click) could be a way to go.
