Thanks @gazumped it sounds like my notes will be retained, but I won't be able to add any new ones: Exporting to Multi HTML looks promising I did find the tags are retained in the html code, but it doesn't seem easy to search for them later when looking for a document with a specific tag - perhaps too buried in the htm. I wonder if there is effective software for Mac to browse a huge archive of saved html pages...? Pdf export creates a single pdf from multiple notes and no tags from what I can see.

I have a few questions related to moving from a paid personal subscription to free plan downgrade: 1) If I move to the free plan will my notebooks with nearly x4000 notes be preserved? 2) will I be able to continue accessing my notes? 3) If I have a some time left on my paid plan will canceling before it expires still allow me to use the exiting time or will it stop the paid personal the day I cancel on an annual plan? 4) Can one start a paid monthly plan at some point in the future if needed and then stop again? 5) Lastly are there effective ways to export all the data in Evernote especially clipped articles with tags - perhaps to pdfs with meta data or tags appended to file names etc?
