Sharing not working on Moto Z

He had just downloaded a couple weeks ago but I'll have him check for an update -
I've had Evernote 10 years. My friend with a Moto Z just got it. I share notes via email or within Evernote (which sends email) and he gets email but can't see within app. The work chat isn't working either. We both have the basic version and it says we should be able to share notes within Evernote. Any suggestions?
