Wow amazing, thanks so much. I just encountered the exact same problem and it was doing my head in! I followed your suggestion to use a really simple password and that did the trick!

I understand that preferences menu is no longer showing after you updated your Evernote.

We haven’t yet built this feature into the new Evernote app. This feature is on our to-do list and we plan on building it soon.

I just want to add my frustration. Just updated my Evernote on Windows and no Preferences menu anymore... !!?? I can't turn off the spell check. This is annoying !!!!!!!
