This was exactly my problem on my Android Phone - even though the VPN was on my Chromebook for both the webapp and downloaded app it worked fine but NOT on my phone - once I saw the note above about VPN - paused it all worked again - and that protip above about split tunnel - thats the way! (while your there on VPN split tunnel go move those other apps in there that will create brain damage at later date)
