I encountered the same issue yesterday, while using Evernote Web. It created over 100 duplicates (not a typo), which I now have to manually sift through and clean up. It happened to me a few times before but never to this extent... However, I've noticed the problem usually occurs when including Tasks. Most of the duplicate notes will have an "empty" task (the default, unchecked "Untitled task") while the "correct" version will have the correct task that I entered. So that might be something to look into. And as @Annalea says, what makes this even more frustrating is that this is a solved problem, except apparently for Evernote...
