  1. It's like you're reading my mail (or mind!). I have the same exact problem. All 3 of my windows PCs. Search drives me crazy - two characters, then pause... then two more, then more pause. And EN support just says well, upgrade to the latest... ok, upgrade to the beta... OK, rebuild your database... but here's a thought: if it happens on 3 different computers, and worked fine on v4, hmm... what is the common denominator here? And they say they have no issues - hey, that's great. How many notes are they working with? How much data overall? I'd love to just go back to v4, but how long is that going to last? Every update I cross my fingers that things will get better. And yet it seems that in every update, v5 still works about the same. That fix is easy. And 4.x does the same annoying thing. After revision 254440 (v4.5.7 beta3 and later) Evernote Windows client loads search-as-you-type delay time from registry value HKCU/Software/Evernote/Evernote/SearchAsYouTypeDelay which by default is set to 50 milliseconds. If you change this value to 0, search-as-you-type feature will be completely disabled, so you'll have to press Enter or click the Search button at the right of the search entry field to start search. I set mine to 2000 so it would search after I pause for 2 seconds, but why in the world it is set at 50 is beyond me. That only works for people with less than 100 notes. I have over 20,000. Thank you! In my ticket I've been asking if there's a way to turn that off, and they didn't know what I was talking about! Ugh - I had heard there was some setting you could change, but for some reason I just couldn't find this anywhere. That does solve one big headache for me anyway. I still find it laggy for other things, and I still don't like the look, but I think I'm in the minority on that. I'm just hoping that this fad will shift back to something not quite so faceless and empty.

  3. That is sad. But hey, 5.x sure is pretty! Wow, really? Part of the reason I don't like 5.x is the look. So flat, faceless, and boring IMHO.
  4. Is there a way to tell how much of your monthly upload allowance you have used in the new Evernote 5? It doesn't seem immediately obvious.
  5. Hip hip hurray! Now does that mean I can select a notebook, then a tag, and only get notes from that notebook with that tag? (Or ctrl-click to do the same?) Because that's really important to me.
  6. Beyond what cwb said, if this is something that you do a lot, then you should make a saved search out of it, and add it to your shortcuts. This isn't a really good workaround - It's part of what makes the IPad / other mobile versions clunky in my opinion. I can make saved searches, but sometimes I want to select a particular notebook, with a particular tag. However, many times I want to select multiple tags. Or I want to select from several different notebooks with these tags. I pick these things very dynamically - in order to get what I'd want, I need like 20-30 different saved searches. It doesn't work nearly as well as multi-select. And I want to select tags for a certain notebook ALL THE TIME. And then keep those same tags, but look at a different notebook. None of this functionality works as I need it to in v5 now.
  7. Um, go back and look at the move from EN3 to 4... that was actually way more disappointing at the time. They've slowly improved 4 over time... I'm sure the same will happen with this version. But I hope we're not forced off EN4 right away because it has some deal breakers for me right now.
  8. OK - you select a tag, and even though you're in a notebook, it goes to the "All notes" page. OK, then I go to the All notes drop down to pick a particular notebook, and it clears the tag. Why would this work this way? And then you can't just to a multiselect for multiple tags in a particular notebook. This is very clunky. Clearly no one at the EN team has used it for GTD / TSW... I absolutely hate this flat colorless look that everything is going to - Office 2013, Gmail, a bunch of others... and no way to customize it. You get your pick of grey or white (if you get to pick anything). HATE IT!!! I don't mind the "announcements" section, but it would be nice to have an option instead of either having it there or not, having it show up only when there are unread items. Overall it's not horrible, but I need multi-select tags back, and I need an easy way to just pick a particular notebook and then find tags for notes in that notebook. So far unfortunately I don't see any reason to move to EN5. Clicking on the "Tags" or "Notebooks" piece is completely useless, but maybe someone likes it. And the shortcuts area is not important to me - seems very limiting. I'd rather be able to star my notes and find them. Reminders might be the one real add over EN4. But otherwise I honestly don't see the benefit of the new version. It is quicker, but it seems like that must have more to do with the back end, which could have changed without the UI changing so much. Anyway, those are my two cents.
  9. It seems that I am having a problem with the Outlook plugin with the latest version of Evernote (3.0.0.582). When I close Outlook it gives a crash report error (Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.). If I disable the plugin, I don't get this error, and I don't get this error if Evernote is uninstalled. But upon reinstalling, it gives the error again. It happens whether or not Evernote is actually running at the time. If I debug, it seems the error is Unhandled exception at 0x616e34fe in OUTLOOK.EXE: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x616e34fe. This is Outlook 2007 running on XP SP3. I don't think this was an issue with the previous version .550? of evernote.
  10. I'm a little confused by all this -- is it really the intention of EN to drop the features of 2.2 and instead move to 3.0 the way it is? 3.0 is a BETA -- from what has been said, the plan is to evolve it to something that satisfies all the 2.2 power users by bringing over much of the functionality, while continuing to improve many other features. From what I understand that is still the plan. I haven't seen anyone from EN say that yep, 3.0 is done, that's the way it's going to be, and if you want the functionality of 2.2, then you should use that or something else. I've been trying out both for the first time (I think I may have played with Evernote way back, but it's changed a lot since the last time I looked at it), and I'm impressed with the potential of both. From what I can see of version 3.0, there is really no reason that the features of 2.2 cannot be added into the final product. If I had to choose right now, I would definitely choose 2.2, but the "access anywhere" and sync of information is very compelling for v.3. I've used other products for keeping this type of information, and while 3.0 doesn't have all the features I would need to have, I think it could definitely get there. I think a number of people on here are complaining without really seeing 3.0, judging from the comments of "I don't want all my info in the cloud", "online only", etc, because the software still allows local / private notebooks and offline capabilities of the software. I'd be very excited to be able to access from anywhere, because sometimes I want to give myself a note, but I'm not at my own computer or whatever. Having a web component is definitely interesting. The e-mail recipient capability is very interesting as well. I think everyone needs to do a wait and see sort of thing. Hopefully the final intention is to create the functionality seen in 2.2 with the other features in 3.0. It seems like if nothing else they could create a 3.0 that has all the features of the current beta, but then for your offline workbooks it could give you every bit of the functionality that 2.2 does now (if for some reason those features won't translate into web/mobile/mac, etc or whatever). I guess all I'm trying to say is now does not seem to be the time to panic. If I'm completely off basis here and the plan is to completely dumb down the product to the point that it's not useful, I would love to hear from the developers. ;-)
