I have ‘shake to undo’ on but it’s never successful. It just ends up erasing even more text. Good idea in theory but does it actually work for anyone?

I have countless times accidentally erased valuable information that I have no way of recovering, only because the iPhone backspace suddenly accelerates to a lightning speed and wipes out lines of text. I use Evernote to keep track of tasks etc. All I would ask is being able to undo accidental erase, so just one level of undo would do it for me. Shaking the phone has never worked, doesn't undo anything.
