I know this is already a thread but I wanted to share my perspective. I spent 25 years in corporate tech. I understand how margins and profits and corporate acquisitions work. Consumers are often unhappy. I have been a supporter of Evernote for years. But when I got my current email that says they were taking my plan from $69 to $129/year, I was in disbelief. I actually thought they had made a mistake.
I am not a price sensitive consumer nor do I complain much. Much this was incredible. I did cancel my subscription today to which they have an automated 40% discount offer. But this was unethical. I know this is coming from the new parent company.
I took my years of folders and notes and transferred them in under 5 minutes to Apple iOS Notes. Seamless. And it syncs on all my devices. The format is mostly the same, I lose a few features but that doesn't matter. I also looked at Google Keep but they don't have an app for Macs.
I am sure they did their research and know most won't cancel or transfer. I never do when this happens. I even considered for a moment to keep my account as the extra money isn't a big deal to me. But the ethics were on how the treat loyal, paying, customers.
It is a personal choice. I just wanted to share mine.
