Create note from widget without unlocking/opening app

I'm thinking about buying an iPhone, but right now I'm not sure how exactly the notification bar widget will behave. Suppose my phone is locked, I wake up the screen, pull down the bar and click on the "Text" button. What exactly will happen? Idealy, I would be prompted with a text field and be able to enter my note without having to unlock the phone or starting the main app.

I tried to find videos or pictures of people doing this, but I couldn't find any. Evernotes help page says

With the Evernote widget, you can create notes from the Today View in the Notification center, even on a locked screen.

So what can I expect now?
