How to edit user.dic?

I want to give the "user.dic" an additional list with expressions. Works fine the "usual" way = mark a word in the Evernote editor and choose "add this word to user dictionary" - and zoom, it is in the ASCII file "user.dic".

But for a long list it would be more comfortable to make this addition direct in "user.dic" (with a text editor). This doesn't work ... Evernote recognizing only words from the first way ... Strange ... any idea?
