(Archived) Parent/child tags -- incomplete implementation

Using parent/child nested tags certainly helps organize tags, but that's all.

It seems to me that the child should be a subset of the parent. That is, if we have this arrangement:

PARENT

....CHILD

....CHILD

........GRANDCHILD

........GRANDCHILD

which, for example, could be

FLYING

....CROSS COUNTRY

....INSTRUMENT

........CURRENCY

........TRAINING

Now it's clear that a topic with the tag TRAINING should also have the upstream tags INSTRUMENT and FLYING. But you have to do all this manually, assigning the tag TRAINING doesn't automatically assign the upstream tags.

This should be addressed.
