Paste and match style failing on new line

Paste and match style (cmd shift V) fails when new line is used before paste and match is applied.

It works fine if pasting into a line that already contains formatted text, but fails when pasted on a new line. Use case for me is writing a note in a smaller font (the default size is too big for me) and pasting to match style fails and pastes in font size 15.
