Design of the iOS type formatting bar can be improved

I struggled to find the highlight tool in the type formatting bar on several occasions because the area that contains it does not look scrollable and it is outside of the screen frame.

Discoverability can be improved if you expose a partial icon on the right screen edge or have the formatting bar animate in upon load or some other affordance solution by your UX designer.
