  1. I am not disagreeing with the above opinion, but how about if client side changes first? This is something that will meed time to build and be sent to App Store for people to update first. Especially when v10 sucks they need to rewrite from scratch.

I am not a fan of Evernote but during this year they did rewrite some parts of the apps (e.g. navigation). I don't know in the blog article if they implied there will be a native desktop version replacing current Electrons.

I just want to say Ian Small did a very worst job on launching v10: rarely unusable so that I can't find another app which is like Evernote! Bending Spoons has been every part of it is crapped and there is a long long long long way to go.

For me I just use other alternatives like Apple Notes in the short run. If the new Evernote is much better and if they introduce more options of import (other than enex and html) I may come back.

  2. Evernote is a special and even exclusive company. They have more than a decade history and tried different kinds of things. For most people who don't always take notes and integrate note taking into task management, and who don't explore more about note taking, they may find Apple Notes, Craft and especially Notion more suitable and even cheaper for them. Especially Evernote has recently and quietly raised their subscription prices (Personal to a bit more expensive than Professional, and Professional is ~50% more expensive than before).

I have mixed feelings about Evernote. On one hand I can live without it and while the app navigation (bottom left button for shortcuts, notebooks, tag and tasks), comprehensive search (can find notebooks and tags as well as allow users to filter or change the order of search results...), table allowing all formats including photos so that I can use it to organise my thinking, different colors of highlight to allow me to concentrate on reading what I wrote. This is what other apps may not, or choose not to make the above better because they don't think those details are necessary. For example in Apple Notes it's difficult to find notes that matches titles because they don't put those on the top of search results; in Craft search is just for when you know exactly which note you are going to edit to find it more easily: they have no intention to find notes that you forget.

On one hand I find it annoying when Evernote is sometimes slow and consumes much more battery, or duplicate notes (up to 45 notes!); on the other hand, even though other apps are smoother and lightweight there are still few bugs that can be enough disturbing. Like Apple Notes suddenly scrolling back from almost the end to the beginning or middle of the note; traditional Chinese typing (language used by Hongkongers and Taiwanese) issues on Craft.

Evernote may be an everything bucket for some people, but can be a good place allowing me to turn rough ideas into solid actions and projects through different ways (writing, tables, photos, highlighting through reading and organising). Other apps like Apple Notes focus mainly on quick capture; Craft and Notion for organising; iA Writer and Bear for writing long articles. If the app is as smooth and reliable as other apps, I don't mind paying the latest subscription price.

But I think Bending Spoon will fix this as the app performance is still inferior even though there has been improvement for these two years.

And for someone who prefer Evernote to be sold to Google, I will think it may be that Evernote chose not to (I just think if this happened) because Google and Apple in history destroyed what they bought: Motorola and Dark Sky app are the examples.

I already said elsewhere - initial reaction was a major WTF??,  but slightly more nuanced view says - treat this like all the other software apps that have been sold / 'improved' / crashed in the past - as long as it continues to deliver;  I'm fine.

I have some backups / exits in place 'just in case' and they'll still be available if everything goes south.  I'm content to wait and see...  NB the deal is not ratified until at least next year,  and big deals can be adventuresome (looking at you,  Elon)

And just on the flip side - if you're inclined to immediate panic and frantically look around for somewhere else to be - you'll waste 50% or so of your productive time in the next 6 months trying to find an alternative solution,  and at least that for another year getting everything in place with a new provider - which could turn out to be the biggest mistake you made this decade...

Breathe,  people - be calm;  stuff happens.

The fact is, many people have been preparing that for two years or more (issues of EN for these years like privacy, news of financial difficulties, price increase, v10 launch...). Most of them may still keep using Evernote for most of the time but they can have a rough idea about their new ways of the second brain. It's not the first time Evernote has issues but the determination to go can accumulate although it can be slow and gradual.

Acquisition may not be bad news and Bending Spoons may do a better job. But for me I am in between plain text note taking and EN task management. I don't need to spend six months now to look for an alternative. Plain text may not be exciting and convenient but allow me to focus on writing and developing my own ways and tools which cannot be affected by companies.

    Hello

I no longer have any need for my Evernote account and would like to cancel it. My membership was taken out less than 60 days ago via iTunes.

When I try to cancel it on the Evernote website, it refers me to Apple as it was purchased via iTunes

Apple/iTunes has said that they do not offer refunds for cancelled subscriptions which I feel is grossly unfair...

Any ideas to get my money back or do I accept 'this is the way it is'?

You can request a refund through http://reportaproblem.apple.com/ within 90 days of purchase.
