  1. Seems like the 5 rogue processes were the cause, I killed them and tried again while watching Task Manager - that was interesting alright.

EN processes started up gradually one at a time getting up to a total of 8 at one stage then dropping to 5. Then an EN window slowly started to appear. Eventually EN was up and running. All this took an absolute eternity, I wish I has started a timer, I reckon it was 5 minutes or so. I then noticed the green elephant had appeared in the task bar icon after some time - it was an empty white square for most of the startup, I guess updating icons is on of the last things startup does.

I see I am back to 8 processes again. It will be interesting to see if any are left hanging when I close EN down next time.

[EDIT} Forgot to mention the EN elephant icon is back in the notification area so all appears to be well once again 👍

I'm going to leave it going for the time being 🤞

    Thank you @Mike P

In the past I have had various lurking EN processes that have prevented me from opening EN. So you could either reboot or open task manager and see if there are EN processes running in the background. If there are you can just kill them.

I should have mentioned that task manager shows 16 EN processes when it's trying to start; when it gives up trying there are 5 processes left running but nothing appears on the screen 😕

And there is no sign of the EN app in the notification area.

Those 5 possibly rogue processes could be the answer, I'll try pruning them (while 'pruning' a beer or two 🍻 obviously 😁) if they're still there, thank you 👍🏻

  3.  It usually takes several attempts for Evernote to start in Windows for some reason <sigh!> until the past few days that is. EN on my Android tablet always behaves itself and starts when I want/need it to.

I click or double-click the icon on the Task bar, I click or double-click the icon in the results from doing a search for Evernote, I click or double click the icon in the Evernote folder.

Usually I get a spinner for a few seconds then it vanishes and nothing happens. I try again and again and then after a few attempts Evernote starts. I then leave Evernote running unless I have to close it or Restart. The icon on the Taskbar has gone white and I've lost the green elephant.

In the past few days I just keep clicking or double-clicking. Sometimes I get a spinner for a few seconds, sometimes nothing happens. Evernote never starts  😢

    Should I reboot? Should I reinstall? Should I have a beer? 🍺 Should I have a lot of beer? 🍻      🤷‍♂️

Perhaps I should should go over to the Apple dark side. (Waits for resultant backlash....) 😈

As far as I know, the Note URL is set automatically only one time when the note is first created... it doesn't randomly pick a URL from your list of notes and put it in there. (How are you creating the new note and/or inserting web links?)

In case you already didn't know, you can remove the note URL by going to Note Info and clicking the little 'X' in the URL field:

    [SNIP]

Unfortunately, you can't remove the Backlinks from showing.

There is an even easier way - see attached screen shot......

But I do have 653 Notes. I did this when I had far fewer Notes but after an update they all came back again.

So as you can imagine I don't want to do it again 🙏

Backlinks are super useful: Initially you could insert a link, and move forward to that page. Say you started in a TOC note, and moved to one of the notes linked there. You could then click on the "back" arrow, and move to the page where you started.

I do my own implementation of Backlinks then. The top of every Note has a list of all the relevant Notes as you can see (a TOC as you call it). Every relevant linked Note has the same TOC so I can return to the starting page or any of the other relevant Notes at will. A simple copy and paste when creating a page means a saving of £6.67 a month 🤣

That the notes in the links show differently is probably some embedded HTML formatting. You can correct it easily: Select the text (the links), choose "Normal Text", choose "Apply". This will set all links to the standard, which usually is Sans Serif, 16pt and green.

Thank you for that tip, it works with the colour variation but it doesn't fix the links that ended up as 'Mixed' font

The URL will show by default, no exceptions. I find it quite useful - the saved pages are static, and one click on the URL allows to check the current status of the clipped page.

I don't clip web pages I insert web links for pages that are useful to me when building or configuring the model.

As I said it chooses one of the many links in the Note and inserts it at the top which is completely unnecessary as the link is already in the appropriate section of the Note

  9. Every time I upgrade I end up with mixed formatting in the internal links to other Notes - it is so annoying.

Oh yes and the default font changes and the previous font I use to like using isn't available any more <sigh!>

And then there's those annoying Backlinks and links to web pages already linked from within my Note.

Is there anything I can do about them please?

  10. I originally raised this by replying to a thread I found using search, unfortunately it was in the Mac issues forum - only just noticed that 😏

I appear to have found a bug in my Windows 10 app. This has only started happening recently for me, since the v10 upgrade as far as I remember....

I deleted a picture from a note and replaced it with a new one. The new picture is shown on the note but the thumbnail in the note list reverts to the old picture when it refreshes.

I found a workaround.... I duplicated the note and all was well there, it is just the original note that has the problem.

There is no problem in the note list on my Android tablet, it refreshed correctly.

    Screen shots of both attached

This is a pain as I use the thumbnails to visually search for the note I am looking for

Er,  not sure - you found a way around any delays in updating the thumbnail views,  but there might well be server slowdowns since the app is now heavily server-based.  Glad you fixed it,  anyway.

Sorry? I didn't say it was fixed because it isn't. I changed the picture in that note a few hours ago and the thumbnail hasn't updated yet. The Android app never had the problem, still doesn't. I did the same in another Windows app note weeks ago and the thumbnail still hasn't updated, it's ok in the Android app.

One of those screenshots is the Windows app, the other is the Android app - they are not the same, still aren't.
