Chrome Chrome Web Clipper stop working with a red dot by the button

Recommended Posts

After some automatic upgrade by window 8.1 my Web Clipper in Chrome stopped working. There is a small red dot by the Clipper button. I went into the extension setting turn off and on, still not working. I then uninstalled the Clipper extension and reinsalled it, still not working with the same small red warning dot by the button. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

First, make sure that you're running the latest versions of Chrome and Evernote Web Clipper.

Can you try doing the following?

  1. Login to your Evernote account using https://evernote.com
  2. Once logged in go to Account Settings
  3. Then to Applications
  4. From that page revoke the Clipper access for all instances of the Chrome browser
  5. Close the browser completely, reopen, retry

Also, make sure that you've allowed the clipper as an exception on any security services you might be running. I also recommend making sure that you aren't running into any sort of conflicts with other web extensions in the Chrome browser. Sometimes we see conflicts with other web extensions that can cause these sorts of scenarios.

Thanks. I do not see the Clipper access of the Chrome browser. All I see are my device names like "home PC" etc. The home PC is the one that gives me problem. Should I just revoke the access of the home PC?

@cpchang this makes me suspicious then that you're possibly logging into 2 different accounts. Can you confirm that you're using the same account in both Evernote and Web Clipper?

Thanks. I did not check this page for almost one month.

Not sure what you meant by using  an account in Web Clipper? The Clipper was in the extension tool bar when it worked for a long time. When the red dot appeared after the Windows upgrade I removed the clipper button and reinstalled it by downloading from the web.

If you are right, what can I do to "use the same account" in both Evernote and Web Clipper?

Web Clipper Evernote Web have both separate login screens. It's possible to use different users in both systems.

You can see the currently logged in account click the Web Clipper then "Options" at the bottom.
You'll see your email address listed next to "Signed in as" at the top.
To switch to a different account, click "Sign out" and then enter your username and password on the following page.

Thanks. I click the Web Clipper then Options, but I do not see any "Singed in as" or any email address. I then tried several times clicking around the button and suddenly a log-in page magically opened, allowing me to sign in with my Evernote account. I then look at the Options page and indeed my email is there and there is a sign out button. The problem is resolved, but I still do not know how I was able to open a sign in page.

I have the same problem. But only with Chrome (on Mac). The web clipper has an orange/red dot but (left) clicking on the web clipper extension icon does nothing. Right click and I get options etc. and I can see I am not logged in on an account. When trying to clip it tells me I need to logon but I can't get the logon dialogue box to appear. All options identified above do not work, and on my account settings there is no entry for Chrome. I am OK in Safari.

The web clipper icon (next to the url bar) wants me to sign in. When I use my Evernote log in (userid & pw) there is a message that "no user with that name exists". Since I thought I read that you might need another account for web clipper (did I read that incorrectly?) I tried to create a new account/register from the web clipper sign in dialogue box. As soon as I put in my email address, I get a message that "this email is already in use".

I have the latest chrome version: Version 51.0.2704.106 (64-bit)
Google Chrome is up to date.

I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed the web clipper. I am on a mac air MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013)  OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.5

I have been trying to get onto the Web Clipper for about a month. I have looked through the forums. I have posted in a forum (no reply).  Is there a solution or shall I dump the whole concept of using web clipper? (There is already a learning curve with your products, as one might expect, but this is wasting way too much of my time. )

I tried to reproduce the problem, but I'm always able to show the login screen. Which browser/clipper/OS versions are you using? Would you be able to send me your log, you can access it from the options page.

This should work, of course.

Please use the usual Evernote login to use Web Clipper.
Did you use the userid or the email address (you can use either).
If you tried userid, please try your email address with the same password.

Let's involve our friendly support if it doesn't do the trick.

I was just looking at this as i had exactly the same problem - and then managed to accidentally solve it when i went to look at the suggestions above. It seemed to be unhappy with the autocomplete for my email address - if i typed my email address in full (and ignored the option to click on or select the autocomplete even though it was correct) it let me login. I have zero idea why this made a difference but it's worked so i thought i'd share.
