chunkit721 12 Posted October 29, 2013 Hmm I counter this problem for a while. It seems to me that I can only change the color of the font rather than the highlight when I call out the "show colors" option under format. Does it mean there is only one color available for highlight at the moment? 11 Share this post Link to post

0 MissMackBailey 0 Posted September 12, 2016 Hi. Wondering if anyone from Evernote is going to respond and provide some feedback as to whether this is a feature that will be added in an upcoming release, or if this is a feature that will not ever be implemented so we as users can set our expectations accordingly. 0 amanda_h 293 Posted September 13, 2016 Hi @MissMackBailey, The feature request forum is a means of letting the Evernote development team know what things you'd like to see implemented, however it doesn't guarantee that the features requested will be added to the application. Anyone? In my experience, and based on the comments of some Evernote employees, they don't often announce upcoming features until they're almost ready to go (and you can see them in beta releases), nor do they often definitively rule out future development directions. All in all, It's probably better to base your expectations on what is actually in the product than what may appear some time later. Share this post Link to post

0 rekag 1 Posted September 26, 2016 please make this happen!! I've been waiting for this feature since 2013. Software such as OneNote allows for various colours to highlight with.. I don't see why this has been overlooked. 1 Share this post Link to post

0 janetmsewell 0 Posted October 14, 2016 I agree. I use different colors to highlight different aspects of text. Like where the conclusions are, where the questions are in the text etc. This is a very basic and needed function - especially for students. Share this post Link to post
0 Michael UK 3 Posted October 19, 2016 Yes it is annoying that you can't choose a highlight colour. If you copy and paste the text to another app (Word or Text Edit) you can select a highlight colour, then copy and paste it back to Evernote. The colour is then displayed - so why can we just pick a colour instead of messing about in another app? 2 Share this post Link to post

0 Nicholas Quixote 0 Posted November 11, 2016 Yellow Highlights don't display at all when Flux.app is used. Many people use it. . Apple in it's wisdom has incorporated this feature in iOS, it's probably only a matter of time it's in the desktop OS. Help us out evernote. Please add different colors so we can see our highlights without eye strain!! Share this post Link to post
0 simonholland 2 Posted December 9, 2016 Lack of highlighting in different colours has been driving me mad ever since started using evernote in 2008. This has always been my top annoyance. Clearly the code is already there, since, as noted by others, highlighted text pasted in from other apps happily displays in other colours. Essentially all we need is a highlighting colour widget alongside bold and italic, etc. to give native access. One reason that this is now super urgent is that when f.lux switches on evening screen colours on MacOS, the existing yellow highlights become completely invisible making a nonsense of highlighted evernote texts. Pretty please could you fix this. It would make us all so happy. Many thanks for considering. Share this post Link to post
0 Joe B 0 Posted December 15, 2016 I agree with Sofiya. Please give us this feature. I makes note taking much more efficient. Much better. I work in two languages and having two colors of highlight would be awesome. Thank you. ขอบคุณมาก Share this post Link to post
0 MrsCuriosity 0 Posted December 16, 2016 +1 Feature Request: Add different highlight color options just like EN offers different font options. I agree with Kunoslav that more pastel highlight colors make the highlighted text much easier to read than dark or neon colors. Like another poster, I would trade text color options for highlighter color options. Share this post Link to post
0 gru034 2 Posted February 18, 2017 It's clear, they simply don't want to do it or they don't read their own forum. This request exists "for ages" (and it's difficult to understand why they introduced a single color highlighter only). It would take them couple of hours more + some testing to fix this useful feature (this is just a different color and existing color selector can be used for that!). They rather introduce less important stuff (e.g. note reminders etc.). As well, there is no quick way how to report bugs (and possibly missing features) right from the app. If I spot an error (and I've encountered numerous bugs so far), I won't definitely go to forum and report that (and I'm pretty sure many others neither). This is simply too cumbersome to me. If they need to track a bug, they can start a forum thread themselves. It should be no.1 priority for them to identify and fix bugs to keep their users happy, but to me it seems it isn't. I don't see any real progress in development of the desktop app. (especially concerning the central point - editor). To me Evernote is love and hate at the same time, but these rather small issues and inability to resolve them for a long time are killing the app & Evernote reputation. That's just my opinion on that. Peace 1 Share this post Link to post

0 Chan 1 Posted April 12, 2017 I would very much like to have more colors available in the highlighter. The lack has been bugging me for a long time. 0 Greenhouze 2 Posted October 6, 2017 I have used the pay version of Evernote for 3+ yrs, however, I will not be renewing. Because of the lack of this essential feature which is really basic table stakes for any enterprise "note taking productivity" app, I was swayed to check out One Note, which not only offers multi-color highlighting but other end-user friendly functionality that Evernote continues to ignore, I've now been converted. Sadly its goodbye Evernote! My parting ask- How about you try to throw a very obvious much-needed feature bone to your customers every now and then and I might come back. 2 Share this post Link to post
0 MrsGixxer 9 Posted October 6, 2017 Greenhouze like you I have been a paid subscriber for several years. I'm very disappointed in Evernote's lack of attention to this issue. I haven't decided yet what I am going to do but I did use OneNote prior to Evernote and loved it. I just may go back as well and I already have it so it will be an easy switch. Evernote you need to stop ignoring us. 1 1 Share this post Link to post
0 Pat123 0 Posted October 18, 2017 I was sure I just had not seen the option to change the color. I said to myself "it cannot not exist, right"? Then I googled for it and found this thread. I can't believe such a simple feature is not implemented. I too have been a paying subscriber for quite a while, but there are more and more things that have been annoying me lately with the Windows client, this lack of coloring me being one of them. I'm been trying out OneNote for a few weeks, but I don't really like their Android app for now. Might take me a while to get used to it thought, it is quite different from the Evernote app. Share this post Link to post
0 chezbuttons 7 Posted November 27, 2017 I understand that this is a minor feature, but it would also be trivial to implement. So why not just do it? And frankly, many of the major upgrades are features I don't want, or or don't like after I try them, or don't work properly and waste my time. Evernote's core business is (was?) note-taking. At least get that part right! Take a clue from Amazon: every tiny piece of friction in the user experience can add up to the customer looking somewhere else for gratification. 0 Pbnj 1 Posted December 3, 2017 Very simple idea in coding wise. Have options to choose different highlighter colors. The current yellow is hard to read and barely stands out or at least for me. Plus apparently, studdies show that using different color pens when writing notes will help you study the same applies to highlighters. The only obvious difference is if you use all black or whatever, highlighting certain sections will become faster to find. If I'm wrong, blame my history teacher lol. Well, it works for me at least. If this is a thing already then help me find it cause I'm pretty sure I've looked everywhere lol. Thanks for listening to my ramblings ^w^ Have a good day! Cheers! 1 Share this post Link to post
0 CraigZ 20 Posted December 4, 2017 Another vote for this feature. I use different colours to designate the purpose of the information. As to the comment about "development costs money" there are plenty of paid users on here asking for this, since you can paste in other colour highlights from Word, it can store and display it, so we only need the interface to offer us the colour choice. if "development costs" is the driving factor, then offer basic highlights for the free users, and multi-colour highlights as an upgrade feature. [Along with so many other usability requests, like styles, that power users would pay for, if they aren't already paying] Share this post Link to post

0 Dave Land 11 Posted August 29, 2018 There are thousands of reasons that people might use colored text highlighting. Maybe millions. Maybe a different reason for each user. Here's an article from Fast Company that explains "How Color Coded Notes Make You a More Efficient Thinker." Here's another reason, and I think it's compelling: People who have been asking for this for half a decade have concluded that you're not listening to them, so they've moved on to other platforms. And after waiting five years, we get homework assignments from you: "Prove to us that you need it badly enough." Oy, vey! Instead of "Refreshing the Evernote Brand," whatever that means, why not give your loyal users the features that have been asking for? Share this post Link to post

To try and keep focused and also improve my time estimation abilities, I have a system which works as follows: 1) I write down my next take along with the time I expect to be able to comfortably complete it to a high quality standard. 2) I work on the task until it's complete or I am totally blocked. 3) I then highlight the task as follows: Green - I completed it before or on the estimated time, Orange - I completed it but I overran the estimated time, Red - I got totally distracted and didn't get it done or grossly underestimated it. As an example, a morning would look like this: The above screenshot is from Google Docs, but I would love to be able to do this in Evernote. Hope this is useful. Share this post Link to post

Also, the EN yellow highlighter is too faint and barely noticeable, especially if your screen is set to warm hues (to reduce blue light). The need for noticeable and distinguishable highlighting of text is a basic concept of note-taking, but the existing EN highlighter tool is of low utility. We need different highlighter colors; please add them. Share this post Link to post
0 jyl 3 Posted August 29, 2018 You have time for "Rebranding" but not enough time to add highlighting which is a key function of notetaking. I'm ready to abandon ship if we dont at least get an explanation. This seems so disrespectful Share this post Link to post
0 xmasmoneky 30 Posted August 29, 2018 While I get the frustration that this feature hasn't been built yet, we now have an Evernote employee actively engaged on this topic. Let's take advantage of that vs. venting frustration. Rebranding by the way involves a totally different team than the product/engineering teams, plus keep in mind there are likely hundreds of threads just like this one with people passionately making the case for their particular feature. So again - I understand your frustration, but let's instead overwhelm the Evernote team with evidence on why this feature should be a priority. 1 Share this post Link to post

To gather more specifics, can you please provide real-world scenarios on how you work and where different highlighters would make an impactful difference helping your workflow? Personal and collaborative situations described would be very useful based on your experience. Every day I import documents and emails into Evernote and create large quantities of lists and notes that need to be reviewed and reconsulted and modified over subsequent days and weeks. The point of different coloured highlighters is that it makes it possible to highlight text with different colours in order to represent different perspectives, issues or concerns that can then subsequently be relocated visualised and actioned rapidly This is fundamental to how many people, including me, work on paper, and how I desperately wish I could work in evernote. 0 RonElDoradoHills 0 Posted September 5, 2018 Not sure whether Evernote is working on this or not. I use Evernote for studying and it helps to highlight parts before presentations. Different colors could be used for different significance of the points I'm learning and working on remembering . Share this post Link to post
0 DTLow 3,893 Posted September 10, 2018 Evernote has not indicated an interest in highlight colours I recommend you check out the EverTool app Share this post Link to post
Hmm I counter this problem for a while.
It seems to me that I can only change the color of the font rather than the highlight when I call out the "show colors" option under format.
Does it mean there is only one color available for highlight at the moment?
