Trevor Bradley 3
Hey everyone. If I attempt to access the evernote home page in my browser, I'm instantly redirected to: https://evernote.com/intl/fr/ and the entire page is in French. This only happens when I use Firefox. When I use Chrome, the page comes up in English. I thought perhaps the language settings were messed up on my browser, but if I visit http://mybrowserinfo.com/detail.asp?bhcp=1, it verifies my browser is properly configured for English: Language: EnglishSystem Language: Not detectable with this browserUser Language: en-us Once I log in, the site is properly in English. I can change the language at the bottom to "English (US)", which takes me to an English page at the following URL: https://evernote.com/?noredirect But it's not a permanent change. Any ideas what might be going on here? Why does Evernote's home page insist I'm French? Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 11,652 Posted January 10, 2015 Level 5* Share Posted January 10, 2015 Hi. The English page is working fine for me - try clicking this link https://evernote.com/; maybe the https prefix will do the trick for you. No clue as to why your connection gets redirected to French. Are you using a VPN or a proxy connection to the internet? Link to comment
Trevor Bradley 3
No VPN, no proxy, and https://evernote.com/ redirects immediately to https://evernote.com/intl/fr/ Here are my request headers: GET / HTTP/1.1Host: evernote.comUser-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.9,en-ca;q=0.8,fr-FR;q=0.7,fr;q=0.6,en-US-x-Hixie;q=0.4,en-in;q=0.3,it-IT;q=0.2,it;q=0.1Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflateCookie: _ga=GA1.2.707936924.1417119819; __utmx=154036204.2THornV-TuqQeKHLa3aTvA$0:2.3fcZ8PFPQH--XivfKK0ReQ$0:2; __utmxx=154036204.2THornV-TuqQeKHLa3aTvA$0:1417120648:8035200:.3fcZ8PFPQH--XivfKK0ReQ$0:1421101024:8035200; language=1; member_id=244396; pass_hash=92aa859cdb12924cdb71daaafab7db15; rteStatus=rte; _gat=1; session_id=f3a361f762c40e6e5e6d07961cfbcb00Connection: keep-alive Here are the response headers from the server...HTTP/1.1 302 FoundDate: Thu, 15 Jan 2015 19:14:51 GMTServer: ApacheX-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGINLocation: https://evernote.com/intl/fr/Cache-Control: max-age=86400Expires: Fri, 16 Jan 2015 19:14:51 GMTVary: Accept-EncodingContent-Encoding: gzipContent-Length: 20Keep-Alive: timeout=3, max=2664Connection: Keep-AliveContent-Type: text/htmlStrict-Transport-Security: max-age=31536000 Maybe I'll try installing a locale switcher for firefox to see if I can force the langauge to be English. Trevor Bradley 3
Locale switcher has no effect. I'm guessing somehow the web server assumes my "Accept-Language" is French, even though en-US and en-ca should trump the other languages listed. Link to comment
Rick C 1
I've got exactly the same problem. evernote.com redirects straight to the french site. Using Chrome, happens both at work on Win7 through a corporate proxy and on a MAC at home. Based in Australia, nothing French set on anything in PC, MAC or browsers. Link to comment

I'd suggest submitting a support request on this as a login/account access issue - choose "login/account access issue" in the first dropdown after logging into this link > https://evernote.com/contact/support/ Link to comment

Mr. Blue 0
had exactly the same problem under chrome.I had to reset it :6tm menu2nd option5th tab Link to comment
Trevor Bradley 3
Mr Blue, can you be a bit more specific as to which item you're trying to select (even if the text is in French?) My sixth menu item in French is "Blog".Maybe the URL where this setting is would be helpful? Link to comment
Trevor Bradley 3
I'm aware at the bottom of the page there's an option to change the language (and that English is the 5th item on that list), but it doesn't stick after I close my browser. If I go back to http://evernote.com/I'm redirected to the french language url. Link to comment
Trevor Bradley 3
Figured it out! Something about that "Accept-Language" header string was causing Evernote's server code to redirect me to french. When I deleted all the entries except for en and en-us, it worked just fine in English.I later set up French again, but further down the list, with a new string of "Accept-Language:en-us,en;q=0.8,en-ca;q=0.6,fr-fr;q=0.4,fr;q=0.2", which also worked.I suspect there's something about Evernote's language detector that chokes on "Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.9,en-ca;q=0.8,fr-FR;q=0.7,fr;q=0.6,en-US-x-Hixie;q=0.4,en-in;q=0.3,it-IT;q=0.2,it;q=0.1"... I have no idea why such a complicated language setting was in my Firefox by default. The language settings were in Firefox Preferences / Content / Choose Languages if anyone else has this problem. Sylvain G. 0
What a complete pain in the butt. I'm having the same issue as well, and though I understand French fine I certainly prefer to browse in English. I'm using Chrome on Windows 10. Link to comment
flying_kiwi 0
I had a similar problem, with Evernote homepage redirecting me to the Japanese international site. I'm on Chrome, browsing from Australia in English. Went to Settings > Languages > manage languages... and found that Japanese was above English(Australia) in the list there. See attached pics. Moving Japanese to the bottom has fixed the issue. Link to comment
