Evernote will note open in windows

I have downloaded Evernote onto my laptop, which is running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2. When I try to open Evernote, I get a dialog box appear, which reads.

 

CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER.

You need to be on-line to register or perform an initial sync. 

Please check your internet connection.

 

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Evernote several times with the same result. The internet connection is working, I've also checked the firewall which is set to allow Evernote to connect.

 

Can anyone help with this problem please?

Evernote has made some changes to the Evernote Cloud Service to protect against the POODLE SSL 3.0 issue.  Assuming that you have verified your Internet access using tools like SpeedTest.net, you may need to make some changes to your Internet Options to fix the connectivity issue.

Thank you for your help. Evernote is now up and running. I would not have worked that out in a month of Sundays.
