(Archived) Lost everything!

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I've lost my Evernote library. On launch I get the message... The file "Evernote.sql" could not be opened.

Is there a fix for this? Otherwise the product is pretty useless if you lose everything with every OS upgrade.

Could you try rebooting your Mac, then run Evernote again. Do you see any notes at all, or is everything missing?

If you still see this problem after a reboot, please try running the Mac "Console" application and copy the last dozen "Evernote" lines to paste here.

Re-booting doesn't help... same "can't open sql file" message.

Here are all the lines I have in Console when I did a search with "Evernote"...

I don't think this is directly related to Snow Leopard ... this has worked fine for other users.

Did you have any unsynchronized notes in your database? (e.g. were you using Local notebooks?)

If not:

Please try moving your Evernote database directory so that Evernote will regenerate a new local database by copying your notes back down from the service. To do this:

Quit Evernote.

In the finder, open the "Library" folder in your home directory. (This is in the directory with your name, NOT at the top level of your hard drive.)

Navigate to "Application Support"

Move the "Evernote" directory from that location to a different place (like the desktop)

Start Evernote, provide your username and password again if needed

This will synchronize all of your notes from the service and create a new local database.

I upgraded to Snow Leopard with no issues at all. Even did a complete clean install. Evernote took awhile to download all of my synchronized notes, but did so flawlessly.

Thanks engberg... that worked like a charm. It appears that everything is back.

I still don't know what might have caused the problem(if it wasn't my Snow Leopard upgrade), but I guess I don't care if recovery is that easy.

I am currently running on Lepoard and will get a new mac in a month that will be Snow lepoard. I am just starting my scanning of documents this month and I am doing a lot!

I do not want to loose anything. Can someone give me some info as to how this will work.

1) Can I migrate over all of my data from old mac to new mac with firewire and evernote will come with it?

2) Where is Evernote data stored?

3)Or is this all not as crucial b/c I am syncing everything online and when I get the new mac I should just download the software again and it will download all my details again?

Thanks I am looking for some help before I run into any problems like mentioned above.

Your data is all stored in your home directory, under:

Library / Application Support / Evernote

If you make a backup of that directory before proceeding, you should be fine.

What about the 3rd question. If I install EN software on the new mac won't it just download everything again? What would be the difference?

If you start with a new machine, you can either copy your old data from your old Mac, or else do a fresh synchronization from the service.

If you have any Local notebooks, you'll want to copy from your old Mac, since the service obviously doesn't know about those. Otherwise, if all of your data is in sync, either option will work.

If you have a lot of notes, then a local copy will be a lot faster.
