Viewing a XLS doc but it opening in Text Edit and I can't view

I am having a problem viewing my xls docs in my Evernote application. I dragged and dropped an excel document and when I clicked to view it opened in Text Edit and I can't view it.

It appears that somehow the Mac default app for ".xls" files has been changed to Text Edit.

You can change this to Excel by going to the Finder, select an .xls file, Get Info (CMD-I), and change the "Open With" to Excel, and then click on the button "Change all".

 

You can also right-click on the Excel attachment in Evernote, and selecting "Open with..." and then select Excel.
