other Suggestion: expand links

Recommended Posts

It's not possible to clip a web page in iOS, but it is possible to email a link to Evernote from Safari or Chrome on iOS. How about Evernote expanding a message like this comprising just a link to a clip of the whole web page when it is received (possibly controlled by something on the subject line, like the notebook and tags are)? Obviously this can't work where the page is behind a login or in some other way controlled by the session, but when just taking notes from public web pages, it would be very helpful.

That would be server side. Alternatively, or as well, a facility client side to replace a link with its target page client side would also be useful (obviously this is already possible manually but takes time and creates a second note).

Doubtful this would be implemented. Especially since it would automatically use up a user's monthly upload quota, when they may be not wanting to do that. However, there are several third party iOS apps that you can use to clip web pages on iOS. Please use the search function, should you need more info.

Nonsense. It's only a link emailed in, and only the same as any other note out. And if controlled from the subject line or an explicit user action, then it is completely unchanged if you don't want it.

But that doesn't help if you're in Safari already (or, say the browser in twitter). You have to laboriously switch to a custom app, copying the URL. It's tedious. So much nicer if it was automatic.

First, expanding a URL that is mailed in (which is what I thought your suggestion was) and storing that in a note most certainly *does* use up part of the quota. Sorry, if that's not what you meant by "How about Evernote expanding a message like this comprising just a link to a clip of the whole web page when it is received "

If you mean expanding the link when the note is displayed, then I'm even more doubtful that would be added for more than a couple of reasons. One being the note would be incomplete when viewed without an internet connection. Another being using up bandwidth that some users may be concerned about.

Second, once you set up the third party clipper, all you have to do is "bookmark" the page & the clipper does the rest. You do not have to copy the URL & paste it.
