Lost All Local Notebooks after upgrade!

frankv

Idea

Hello-  I could really use your help.  I've heavily relied on Evernote and have numerous notebooks containing numerous notes.  Today, I lost all of my local notebooks after upgrading from version 2.0.2.  I've spent the last couple hours here reviewing threads from others who've encountered same.  I have managed to restore the old version which I found in the trash folder.  However, I have not been able to restore all of the local notebooks.  I have located where I think they reside, "evernote.sql" located in Application Support>Accounts>Evernote>(my account name).  The file is approximately 18MB and it is larger than previous versions in TimeMachine, so I'm assuming this is the data file that needs to be restored.  Can you walk me through the process or point me in a new direction?  Thanks very much!

Well add me to the list of folk who also lost their local notebook

I guess it would be silly to ask if you have a recent backup...

Not silly at all. Here's what happened.

Upgraded to Mavericks.

Realized that Epson Scan isn't updated yet.

Roll Back to Mountain Lion.

Forgot to backup EN Local Notebook

I rolled back using the Time Machine. I chose the earliest full back up at had. Fortunately I do not delete the things I scan to EN until I'm sure they've been sync'd but this still doesn't include everything.

So it would be right helpful if I could get my old local notebook back.

Lost my Local Notebook too. After the upgrade to 5.03 1614

But here's the Weird Part.  It just might still be there -- only Invisible. ??

My main Local Notebook was called "Local" ... So when I tried to create a New notebook, with the same name "Local" -- it says that I can't create it, because there's Already a folder with that name.

If anyone has any solution -- or advice ---  any assistance would be greatly appreciated. ..

p.s.:  (I'm on a PC ... but just noticed this Thread is under "Mac")

What is disappointing is that this is still happening.

Months after many paying customers have had this issue, it is still happening. Why? What sort of business would not have addressed a pretty fundamental part of the business model: storing customers information accurately and safely. I upgraded from free to premium last week having stored everything on the iPad version, and having to sign in on the web to upgrade as you cannot perform this upgrade function from an iPad (I live in NZ so the time difference is not ideal).

At the upgrade I lost the whole storage of 60 files, and after a whole week of dealing with customer services (ticket# 571557) and having to download 'iExplorer' to locate the missing files. I now find I can't open the most important part of the missing files, the typed notes which are in .html format. So the representative has spent the best part of a week trying to talk me through retrieving the notes and exhausts his solutions of opening the .html files into a format where they are readable, so hands me off to a 'specialist' who hasn't bothered to respond to my ticket all day on Monday (San Fran time), which means I'm now two days into the working week in NZ without any support from Evernote.

Couple of questions to Evernote.

1: Why wouldn't you have addressed this issue - the written notes are imperative to me as a customer and by paying for the upgrade they were removed from my account.

2: Why didn't your support worker know of this recurring issue and just attempt to go straight to your server to get them back and restore my account to the 'pre-upgrade' status?

3: Your apologies were fine the first couple of days but it's pretty simple, rectify the problem. I've spent days on working through this with your support staff suggestions and have to say I'm a pretty hacked off customer who would fail to recommend this business now.

This thread is about local (non-synced) notebooks on the Mac client. You appear to be talking about notes in an iPad ("having stored everything on the iPad version, "), which does not have local notebooks, so a totally different problem.

However, If you had synced all the notes you had on the iPad, they would have been on the EN servers where they are "safe" and can be downloaded to any other computer/device you would have Evernote installed on.

Third, EN responds to premium customers in one business day, California time. You were dealing with one person who apparently escalated your ticket. So yes, it may be that you don't get another reply until the next day, unfortunately.

I am a premium customer with this same issue.  So far, support doesn't appear to have a solution.  Or, if they have one, they haven't communicated it.

Interaction with support has been extremely odd.  Almost like they are indifferent.

Am using OS X on a Mac Mini, BTW, so not anything out of the ordinary.

My local notebooks went missing as well. These are the notebooks I use for real work. Not sure what upgrade was the cause, but happened at some point after switching to App Store version 6.0.x. I deleted the app and installed the download from Evernote.com (6.0.3). Thankfully, my local notebooks reappeared. I have now exported my local notebooks to Evernote XML. Seemed like there was a reason to switch to the App Store version, but I don't recall what it was.

Seemed like there was a reason to switch to the App Store version, but I don't recall what it was.

Here is the explanation:

The App Store version and the direct download version use different directories for the database. The reason is that Apple has special sandboxing requirements for App Store Apps.

When you switch between these versions you first will lose all data but the data that are on our server will be sync'ed to your Mac into the other location.

Whether you local notebooks are completely lost or not depends on the way you performed the switch. When you just installed the new version over the old one or just removed the Evernote.app from your Applications directory the data is still there and when you switch back you will again see your local notes. However, when you use an Uninstaller App like AppCleaner the local notebooks will most likely be lost completely.
