So the email link I just got that included a link where I could download an Android app that would in turn connect me to unlimited number of hot young "bored women" in my area - I shouldn't download that?

Actually... I download the Android betas directly from Evernote (see the Android beta threads). They are outside the Google Play store, but I think they are safe. By the way, the Google Play store is note well-regulated, so I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of malware finds its way in there at some point. I would add to your advice that users should try and stick to "brand names" and be wary of apps from unknown / unfamiliar developers.
