(Archived) what happens if EN goes away

I am fairly new to evernote and love the idea of going paperless. I think EN has a great future but what happens if we go paperless and EN goes away?

Is this a concern?

Of course, we would all miss Evernote if it went away, but I assume you meant you were concerned about your data. No problem. The data is stored on your local drive, so it is safe and sound in your hands. The data can be easily exported at any time as HTML (attachments as well), and from there you can migrate to another notetaking service quite easily if you want. Welcome! You ask a valid question. In fact, if your data is at all important to you, I believe it would be imprudent not to ask that question. Several threads exist for discussing backup, such as this one: http://discussion.ev...all-your-notes/

None of the solutions are perfect. The exported enex file does not store notebook information, only notes. The PC database file probably contains all of the notes, but unattended backup might be difficult. I cannot find where anyone has tested recovery of any information from the PC database file when the servers are unavailable or corrupt. The PC database file also requires that you have access to the correct version of the PC client while the exported enex file can be read by almost any XML parsing software.

Well said. The data is stored on your local hard drive only for the Windows and Mac clients but not for web, Android or iOS clients. For me and (it seems) others, this has been a significant limitation. The only reason I have a Windows client is to support a backup. I found an unattended solution by using Evernote Exporter: http://evernoteexporter.codeplex.com/.

It's hardly a graceful solution, but it does sync and backup all of the notes each day to a server filesystem with redundant storage which itself is backed up every 15 minutes.

Wow, in reading the above, what I wrote makes me look paranoid. I guess if you lose enough data in a career you get that way.
