Remember View Setting for Mac

soundsgoodtome

Idea

I have dozens of notebooks, some of which contain notes that need to be sorted by date created, others that need to be sorted by date updated, and others that need to be sorted alphabetically. But as far as I can tell, Evernote is "one sort fits all." There's only one sort setting. As a result, I'm constantly digging into the nested menus to change the sort order, as I switch from notebook to notebook. I do this many times a day.

Why can't each notebook have its own sort setting?

As to 'why' - Evernote doesn't really seem to envisage notebooks as anything more than a special type of 'tag' - a container to hold a batch of notes so you can do more specialised searches.  The idea that different batches of notes might need different sorting methods for a static display presumably didn't occur to them.

I'll agree that I have one specific notebook where the 'created date' of my notes has been changed to the upcoming event date (in 2016) of a series of events,  and the intent is to share this notebook with a ToC created with the notes sorted by ascending created date as a diary for the year.  However my All Notes list is sorted the opposite way so I get the most recent notes at the top of my list.  I was thinking about setting up a Phrase Express hot key to change to the notebook view and resort the notes - and maybe also generate a ToC note - all with one keypress combination.

I don't think Phrase Express is Mac-friendly,  but Lifehacker has a few Mac suggestions - http://lifehacker.com/5843903/the-best-text-expansion-app-for-mac

Other than that any searches I need to do by notebook are "notebook:<mynotesbook> intitle:<keyword/ date>" so IMO there's not a pressing need for a separate preference for each notebook - others may disagree...

I don't think anyone outside of Evernote has a clue as to their design decisions.

Notebooks are clearly NOT like Tags.  A Note can belong to one, and only one, Notebook.  Whereas a Note may have multiple Tags.

If NBs were like tags, then we wouldn't need NBs.  LOL

IAC, lots of users have requested to have a sort order set for each Notebook.  It makes perfect sense to me.

But so far, Evernote has chosen to not provide this.

Since you are using a Mac, Keyboard Maestro provides a way to easily set the Evernote sort order, and assign it to a shortcut key.

I've used KM for well over a year now, and love it -- it has really helped automate and simplify my workflows, not just for Evernote, but every app I use on the Mac.  As you might guess, I highly recommend KM.  You can use the full-featured trial version for free for 30 days.

You can also set keyboard shortcuts for Evernote using the Mac OS X Preferences > Keyboard panel.

For details, see OS X Yosemite: Create keyboard shortcuts for apps

Great suggestion

I understand this has been implemented in EN Windows, so I'm confident it will get to the EN Mac someday

If you're interested, I have a workaround using Applescript; documented here

Customization is vital for happy customers. Evernote, if you want us to spend time inside this app, make it possible to live comfortably with it. On all platforms. Consistently.

I will also cast my vote on having notebook custom sorting. I like to view notes in one notebook by date and in another notebook by updated date. There should be a number use cases that would justify having notebooks to have their own sorting preference.

Thanks

Race.

Hello Evernote Team,

I would like to know when is "Remember View Setting" is coming to Mac version of Evernote?? I have been a long time subscriber of Evernote, and it is absolutely frustrating that is a vital and essential option is not available on the Mac version.

I have been patiently waiting for this option for the Mac version every day. But it is really driving me nuts! I use both mac and windows version day in and day out. I have ton and tons of notes for specific notebooks. And each notebook needs to be view and sorted differently. On windows, it is excellent. But on my mac, it becomes stupid and unproductive. When I need to switch views every time I jump between notebooks. I want "Remember View Setting" in the next beta of Mac version and an ability where the view settings are synced across all devices.

Please don't say that you have forwarded it to the development team. Please make it happened and please escalate this feature.

I have been your customer for 10+ years. Is it too much to ask for? I am not sure if you care about your long-time customers and the features that they want.

Thank you!

Hello All,

It is unfortunate and embarrassing that important ideas and features goes unnoticed due to the way this forum is criminally designed. A new idea will always have 0 votes and it will be impossible for anyone to see and will be sorted all the way back.

As a paying user, I have been extremely patient with evernote for about 10+ years.

Do the evernote team even care? :( If you care about the users, add this "Remember View Setting" for all the platform. Not just Windows, On the Mac, iOS and Android. Store the View Setting in in your cloud at user account level  and per notebook level.

The default sorting for the forum is by vote.

fwiw  We can change the sort to date sequence, or search by content

It is 2020 now! Do we have to wait another 10 more years?

Still hopeful, but less confidant
