When can I get a stable version for Windows?

Recommended Posts

I subscribed for Premium a while ago, expecting to get reliable service sooner or later. It is still unreliable, and I probably unsubscribe soon if this does not change. The Windows version I have on my computer is not called Beta. However, it is like having a Beta product.

From time to time I forget that Evernote for Windows is currently in Beta, and do not manually check if a note is synchronized. I save a note, work with the computer for some hours (my sync preference is each 5 minutes), then go to another place and discover that my note was not synchronized. Sometimes this results in great personal or business inconvenience.

Let us say that I have an editor which in 1% of cases does not save the text, so each time I have to open file explorer and check if the file was saved. This means this editor is in Beta.

If I have to troubleshoot in order to use the main function of a product (in the case of Evernote, it is saving notes), this product is in Beta. If a product can silently betray me unless I do an update, this product is in Beta. If new updates appear each several days, the product is in Beta. If it says in the troubleshooting page "Update to the latest version of Evernote - Sync errors are often fixed with product updates.", this product is in Beta.

P.S. I do not work for Evernote. Therefore, I do not want to spend my time discussing the issues I have with the main function of your product. I just want to know, if you are planning to release a version, which is stable at least w.r.t. the main function of your product.

Strong message, wrong addressee: The forum is user driven. If you want to contact EN on your concerns, it is through a support ticket.

Maybe they can offer you some help. You do not tell which version of the Windows client and of Windows you are running. I am sometimes using the Windows client as well (I am mostly on iOS and MacOS) and can not report any loss of information. Maybe you should uninstall and make a fresh reinstall is you feel things are not reliable.

I'd file a bug report.  I have never had EN not sync per the schedule of 5 minutes.

What version of EN for Windows are you running?  If it is the Windows desktop pilot I would get off of it and back to the current EN Windows GA as quickly as you can.  The pilot is not ready for prime time.

A general rant has its place I suppose.  But I will give you this, currently I am not sure which version is the "stable" version.  The current version has a few bugs which run from slightly to very annoying, but the previous version had at least one nasty bug that is currently fixed (encryption corruption), so I'm sticking with the current one for the time being.

If you find something that is truly better than Evernote, please let the rest of us know.

You can start by not tracking beta releases. That being said, Evernote, like most software, has bugs, both known and unknown. Some people find earlier versions that work best for them and stick to them until a newer version is found that suits their needs. Maybe that would work for you.

Yeah, this is what I do.Honestly, to me, using the newest releases for work just sounds like madness.

Just find a good release, save .exe file, and use it until they cancel compatibility
(as happened to my 6.5.4.4720 )

Rinse and repeat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
