I'm so tired of constantly correcting EN formatting

The title says it all.  I've used EN for a long time now (10 years?) and I've read forum posts, talked to customer "support" and gone through rounds of restarting, re-installing, updating, looking for conflicting software, different devices, etc., over the last decade to try to solve the formatting gremlins in the application.  I'm no neophyte, but even if I were, the is pretty damn frustrating.

I know, I know, "EN is not a word processor."  I get that , and I support the idea that MS Word or something similar will have more features and formatting capabilities than EN.  I accept that and think that's fine.   I'm not writing a book, I'm writing notes.

What I'm tired of is font changes in a paragraph because I used the "feature" of backspacing.  Or size changes because I went in a sentence to add something to a note.  God forbid if I want to highlight something by underlining it or making it bold, all bets are off then and my note looks like a cat walked over my keyboard.   Opening a note can sometimes change font, spacing, leading, and size.    Years ago I abandoned bullet points, lists and colors because it created more trouble.  

Last year I stopped my premium membership, which I know doesn't matter really.  But if you're here from a Google search and are trying to find out why your notes keep changing, maybe learn from my experience and possibly accept that it's not you.

Formatting isn't a big deal for me for notes, but I've not noticed problems like this
Editing seems quite straightforard

Is this your own content, or copied content from elsewhere?

Evernote's base format is enml/html.  We can look at the underlying html code and see the formatting elements

This is on my own content.

I can still see what I wrote but sometimes if I try to reopen the note or make corrections it changes.

As you might agree, this makes it harder to read or find things that I want to emphasize.  I gave up copying content a few years ago, it was too much trouble.

Not having this problem. Probably it depends on some side effect of actions you take while editing. Yes, I agree, this probably should not happen, but it obviously does, and I do not think it happens to many people.

Maybe it would make sense for you to find out what actions prompt these changes.

Thus you could avoid them, or try to get EN to modify the code.

I'm glad you're not having this problem and thank you for the response.  I've been through customer support/help many times already.

The actions that often but not always prompt the changes: opening or viewing a note, restarting the program and then opening and viewing a note, inserting the cursor in a field of text to add or subtract, changing already-typed text to bold, italic or underlined.  

To be clear, I don't have this issue with other applications.   For me, it's not a solution to avoid doing those things - I don't write that well or think it's a good feature to give up editing or changing text as I write.

Well, this is standard stuff. So it is hard to avoid, i agree.

But still: Where is the root cause of that issue, compared to other installations ?

When have you done the last complete uninstall ? With complete I mean really wiping the EN installation from the Mac. I use the app AppCleaner, and make sure to check all items down the list. Maybe make a backup before, just to be sure.

Then I restart, and reinstall, with the version from the EN website (not from the AppStore). Everything from the server will be copied down again, which may take a while.

This is a constant problem for me. I use the native and web versions on MacOS, a Android tablet version, and web versions with Linux and Windows operating systems with Firefox and Chrome browsers. All versions and platforms have formatting issues.

It is really the only issue (but a big one) that keeps me from a long term commitment to the premium account.

Excusing it away with "all software has bugs," "doesn't happen to me must be something your doing wrong," etc, does not fix the problem.

Hmmn.  As I read it,  you're actively using a free app as a word processor (which it was never designed to be) on several different operating systems.  You could fix your problems by using a dedicated word processor that runs in all those environments and saving the output file to an Evernote note.  I'm a subscriber and mainly use Word in Windows and LibreOffice in Linux and get all the layout results I need.  That's not a 'work around' or a bug,  it's recognising that at present,  and possibly for the future,  it may be impossible for Evernote to deliver the exact same graphics performance on very different platforms.

Hmmn. I never once said I was using Evernote as a word processor Mr. gazumped. I am strictly talking about using the Evernote editor as it is. Not copy and pasting from other sources (adds/changes formatting) or anything else, just using the Evernote editor as it is. If the Evernote editor has a horizontal rule feature, or you can add a blank line between bullet points sections, or paragraphs why not use it or any other feature they include? Using any of Evernote's editor's features should not change the font.

Both replies to David_Foster and my comments were miscategorized. It may help to get your forum bonus points, but it is unfair to miscategorized and dismiss people’s legitimate complaints. Also, whether or not a product is a freemium "free app" has nothing to do with anything. A company (a big one at that) should stand behind its free product version or eliminate it from there plans.
