Notes gone after move to SD card

I recently moved Evernote onto an SD card in my Android phone and it caused all my notes to disappear apart from one that was two years old.  I've looked at my account online and just that one note is visible.  Can anything be done?  Does anyone know why this happened?

Hi.  'Losing' notes is often associated with logging into a different (second) account.  Is it possible that you may have accidentally created another account when trying to move the app around?  If that's not the case,  then you may have a problem - mobile devices don't have a copy of your notes saved locally,  they send all the new and edited data to Evernote's main server - which is what drives the online service.  If you somehow deleted the notes via the mobile app,  then the deletion would have been duplicated in the main account.  In that case though the deleted notes should still be visible (and reinstatable) in your Trash notebook - at the very bottom of the left panel on the web.

What do you mean by this? How did you accomplish it on your device? I don't think it's a recommended / supported option.

Hello,  Thanks for sending me this, I hadn't seen it.  My phone (MotoG5) gave me the option of moving Evernote onto the card.  Many apps did not give me this option so I assumed if I could do it, it must be safe.  I've tried moving it back to internal storage but the notes are still gone...

Thank you very much for your reply.  I do have a second account but I've checked it and the missing notes aren't there.  I did look in Trash and there was nothing.  I didn't ever press 'delete' so I'm not surprised the notes aren't in Trash.  There are some notes from 2 years ago, maybe I actively saved those ones but not afterwards.  I assumed that what I wrote would automatically be saved somewhere without my having to do anything.  Should I have made a request for the notes to be saved to the online account?  It doesn't happen automatically?  Thank you!

Ideally the master storage of your notes is not impacted by this device issue.

You can confirm this using the web platform.

Try removing Evernote from your device and reinstalling.

Hmmn.  Sorry not to have helped.  You could try contacting Evernote on Twitter to see whether they can work any magic - moving your app shouldn't have lost any notes,  though I wouldn't expect the app to work very well afterward.  There was a time when Evernote would work from external storage,  but I think the Android OS changed and put a stop to that.  Maybe you just have one of the older versions.  I do recommend using Evernote on a laptop or desktop computer as well as a mobile though - that gives you another copy of your database,  and you can backup the whole thing locally so data losses just don't happen.  🙁

One other thought, @LucyDale: it's possible to upgrade to a Premium subscription for just one month. That would get you access to your notes' history (which is maintained even for Basic account users), and you might be able to recover something from there. It would also get you access to Evernote support (https://help.evernote.com/hc/requests/new), and they might be able to help you recover the notes.

A note's history is only available if you can access the note.
Lost notes = Lost history

They are not separate accounts; just different methods of accessing your account.

I'm currently using 8.13 and it is using SD storage relatively happily (it's occasionally reverting to internal storage and I keep moving it back).  The thing is - your mobile does not hold any notes - all your account contents are synced back to the server.  Try signing in to Evernote.com via a tablet or desktop browser to confirm your notes are still there.  Maybe uninstall Evernote from your phone / restart and reinstall normally,  then try moving it to SD again?
