“Links” in iOS, missing?! 8.16.6

For years I’ve been using links (internal and external) and now I can’t figide out how to access the menu to create new ones in latest version.

the docs just say to click on the square share button but that seems to have been removed. What might be going on?

Click on the person with the + sign at the top right corner of a note. At the bottom, click “more sharing options”. There should be a copy external link button that pops up.
