Evernote & Samsung Note 9?

Recommended Posts

When the time is right, I would love to see Evernote take advantage of new functionality available via the Bluetooth S Pen in the upcoming Note 9.

The most obvious use would be a way to click on the pen and jump immediately to a new Evernote with the note prepared to accept handwriting. Another use would be for a double click to automatically save the open note.A third cool feature would be to somehow use the S pen to automate taking a picture with the phone's camera and saving it as a new Evernote.

Oh no, I don't have a Note 9. I have a Note 8 on lease, and the lease ends in February 2019. Odds are that I will get a Note 9 then; I doubt I would wait for the Note 10.

So I'm hoping that by next year Evernote will have worked out some cool new tricks using the S Pen & the Note 9.

Hi,

I like your ideas; depending on the exact funtionality of the new s-pen, one might be able to achieve similar results with Tasker.

However, I wouldn't hope for too much. Handwriting doesn't seem to be high on the Evernote priority list, since the experience is still laggy although it was mentioned here a couple of times. I'm a fellow Note 8 user, do you use the handwriting feature in Evernote (not the screen off / Samsung Note feature) regularly? I barely use it due to its lag and the fact that taking a screen off memo is way faster. And since those don't sync with Evernote anymore (thanks Samsung!), handwriting in Evernote is unattractive for me.

Cheers

I also don't use the handwriting feature in Evernote.  It's a sketch tool that inserts an image into the note.
We're much better off using dedicated apps on our devices.
For myself, I'm using the Notability app on an iPad with the Apple Pencil.
I'm able to share to pdf for storage in Evernote.

Lexbrkly, I use the handwriting feature in Evernote pretty much every day, but rarely for long notes. Right now to open a handwriting note I have to turn the lock screen off, then tap the handwriting icon on the Evernote widget - three steps, including taking out the stylus.

If I in a rush and/or feeling lazy, I use the Samsung screen off feature (which requires only one step), and then later share the Samsung note with Evernote if it contains information that I want to save. I agree - it would be much, much better if the screen off notes automatically synced with Evernote.

So I guess I'm hoping for a Note 9 pen feature that would enable me to pull out the stylus, press the button, and jump immediately to an Evernote handwriting note. Two steps is better than three.

I'm flirting with a similar solution (but probably Sasmung S3 / Tab A w/ S-pen) for a couple of months. Couldn't convince myself yet to spend the extra $$.

I can relate to your request. When I bought the Note 8, I hoped for a simliar workflow as well. Best I came up with was to  use bxactions, which let's you reconfigurate the bixby button to trigger certain actions (such as opening a handwriting note in Evernote). It works from the lockscreen, but is unable to unlock it. Thus, you'd have to unlock it manually, which -for me- is more complicated than using screen off memo. Maybe you should give it a try - you'd replace tapping the handwriting icon with pressing the bixby button and it is faster since the Evernote interface loads while your lockscreen is still on.

Alternatively, there seems to be a way to have tasker/autoinput trigger an action when the spen is taken out of the phone. I couldn't make it work properly though.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip. I actually have bxactions loaded; have been using it to activate the flashlight, though I find I don't use the button for that purpose very often. Maybe I'll change it as you suggest so that it loads an Evernote handwriting note, and see if that works better than the three-step alternative.

I love Evernote. But there are certain things I can not pull away from Samsung Notes. Some hybrid. would be the dream. Maybe if Samsung bought Evernote i would be happy haha.

Samsung Notes replaced Samsung's S Note, which was on the previous Note phones. S Note has more features than Samsung Notes and also has an automatic sync with Evernote feature which is greatly integrated (if you open a synced S Note note in Evernote, it will automatically open in S Note and any changes to the note will be reflected in the updated Evernote note). I therefore suggest you download S Note from the Galaxy store on your phone and try it out. Only downside is that the notes you make when you pull out the pen when the phone is off will still end up in Samsung Notes.

Tutuapp 9apps Showbox

After I upgraded by phone to Galaxy Note 9, the Evernote app in the phone is not working. I am not able to login. The error message says :

Login Error

You cannot sign in at the moment. This is likely cause by a bad connection to the internet"

I have checked, the internet connection is fine. I am able to connect to internet from other apps, and this issue is not one time, I am not able to connect more than one month.

I am able to login through my laptop to Evernote.

Please let me know if anybody knows the solution for this.

I have already written to the developer contact, but did not receive any response.

Regards.
