Importing From Microsoft OneNote TO Evernote

Recommended Posts

Hi - I'm in the process of switching TO EverNote from Microsoft Office 365's OneNote.  I use it on a MAC so there isn't an "export" function, but I can access the cloud drive with the onenote files on it. How can I pull the two notebooks I have over there to migrate them into EverNote?

Thanks in advance for any specific assistance.

Hi Guru TK0047... that would have been awesome! Got excited for a minute.

Unfortunately, the MAC version of EverNote doesn't have Import Microsoft OneNote option and MAC OneNote doesn't have an export option.

UGH!  Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

That is a bummer.

@CalS idea is actually a good one, if you can borrow someone's PC, that would work.

Or you can also install Windows on your Mac with the boot camp but to me that would be a lot of work to achieve something that should be easier.

Another option would be the copy paste which can be a pain depending on the volume of course but it can give you a chance to re-think | re-organize your note structure and quality of your notes.

I looked at the OneNote export options and tried importing them into Evernote without using the option. XPS option looks like a file attachment and you can open it to view. Of course you can do the same with a PDF export and you can see the PDF content within the note.

You can try this add on to export to TXT files which import into Evernote with their contents (at least on the Windows version) But may not work on the Mac version

If I was in that situation, I would start the "Operation Copy | Paste". :)

On the import Help page (https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208314308) there are instructions for importing notes on a Mac, on the assumption that the exported notes are in .zip files. I know (heh) zip about OneNote, but is there any way to access its notes online rather than through the Mac program, and export them from there?

Did anyone find a solution here?? I have the same question.

Attempting to import OneNote files from Mac to Evernote on Mac. I do not have the premium model for Evernote so I unfortunately cannot reach out to support team directly.

I tried using the Windows app version of Evernote (running in VM on my Mac), and was able to import several OneNote notebooks into Evernote. It works, but not sure this is for everyone as not everyone may have access to a trustworthy Windows machine. Corporates may be able to use a the work machine (assuming there isn't a security policy that forbids installing apps that one downloads from the Internet).

WARNING:  the MS Store version of Evernote is also lacking the import OneNote feature!!

I needed to do this on a Mac as well. I found a way to export the notebooks, but not to easily import them.

My OneNote is attached to an Outlook.com account so I navigated to OneNote online, right-clicked the notebook I wanted, chose "Export Notebook", and saved the zip file to my local drive. It was a large file and took several minutes to complete the download. (See screenshots.)

Then I tried importing to my Evernote for Mac desktop app using these instructions: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208314308 but it didn't work. Evernote didn't recognize the files for import, and drag-and-dropping only succeeded in adding them as attachments.

Not sure what to try next...

Unfortunately this option doesn't seem to exist anymore...

windows user here--I tried the legacy option and it's said it couldn't upload it at this time.

i tried this https://sspeiser.github.io/onenote-export/notes and it didn't work.

this seems to be the site folks direct me to but it's not onenote specific.

folks come to EN often with notes from another system and i'm incredibly disappointed that this is so hard.

I stumbled across this post and after some current Googling, found that Evernote has a "Legacy" version available on it's site for downloading and usage.  Yes, it's Windows only, but it appeared to work just fine with the option for importing directly from OneNote.  https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote
