Feature Request- Option To Hide Add Note Button in the left upper corner

Idea

Hello

Subj.

It looks gigantic, out of place, it steals precious vertical space from the left panel, it adds padding on the left. Now because of it tags and notebooks look tiny.

Is there a way to hide it?

Thanks

Upvoted. I upgraded about three hours ago and I thought I could just ignore it but I hate it. I have "New Note" on my toolbar; I don't also need it on the left panel, especially a bright green circle with a plus sign in it. :::sigh:::

I also hate this ugly new space-consuming button.

There will never be one interface that suits everyone's preferences.

That's why providing options for customizing it, at least in the desktop versions, is essential.

Have you looked at "Customize Toolbar"? There are barely a half-dozen things you can configure in it, there should be a lot more.

That left panel? I love how you can show and hide whatever you want.

Except for that ugly as hell new note button that just sits up there wasting space and being useless.

One could also say
- The toolbar icon is silly when there is the selection in the top menu
- The menu selection is silly when there is the shortcut key

Since it's redundant, I removed the icon from the top bar; customize toolbar

I think everyone would be happier if the button was optional

I am with the majority.  At least make it optional like shortcuts.  I do not like giving up the screen space to this button.

Agreed. Get rid of it. We have the New NOte button in the tool bar just a few pixels above it. I know the purpose is to make it easy to create a new note, but Excel doesn't have a big block of screen with a huge green button saying "New Spreadsheet" taking up space all of the time.

At least allow us to turn it off.

I would like to have the New Note-button as a gray one, in the tool bar.

If other user is demanding it being a green + in Left panel, please give us an option to choos.

Already exists as a toolbar option. Though it may go away...

As far as I understand it, this is an Evernote-driven feature, aimed at a common UI across their applications, and I'm guessing at improving discoverability of the new note function.

Another vote here.  I have various shortcuts, notebooks and tags in the left window - that new green button just makes the space a few lines shorter for the information I need!

One of the developers seems sympathetic to various comments that others have made on this,  and is trying to get it moved or at least made optional but extra votes above can't hurt...

I agree, I don't even use the new note button, i use mouse gestures to open new notes and the notebook pane now looks more cluttered and bunched together.

As someone who constantly switches notebooks and drags and drops notes to different notebooks this change is unwelcome.   As a power user I'd like more control over the appearance of my notebook pane, beyond color.  I'd like to change the font and size of text in the pane so I don't have to squint.

Ugh just updated to latest and now I have this button as well. I don't see the use when we already have the grey one + key shortcut.

I count 19 items on the main toolbar, where 'New Note' lives. There are 8 items available for the note panel toolbar.

I don't need either the toolbar version of 'New Note' (I've removed it) or the green '+', but I find that it doesn't bother me. I'd agree (and already suggested elsewhere) that its presence should be configurable, though.

This button is silly when there is one in the top toolbar..ALSO even more annoying is on mac it opens the new note in a new window instead of in the existing window like the grey tollbar button.

This is configurable in the Windows client. I don't have that button enabled in my toolbar.

Then you should report it in a Mac forum, if you haven't already, as this is a Windows-specific forum.

Ahem -- in the context of the comment I was replying to, the one in the left panel is silly because there's "already one in the toolbar",, but since the one in the toolbar can be removed (I did before the '+' came around), it's not so silly then. I'm already on record, in this topic, for making the '+' an option, btw...

The Mac issue is fixed in the latest release; new notes no longer generate a separate window

My favourite comment was "garish Fisher-Price button is ugly as original sin".  "Pointless" was another comment; it's a circle - no points

Personally, I can't get worked up about a simple UI element

Hopefully Evernote will resolve this silly point in a future release
- make the sidebar button optional; choice is good
- and/or remove the topbar option completely :)

Agreed. Who needs a New Note option on the sidebar? Also the spacing of the new icon is large, as is the new spacing above the Trash icon in the sidebar too.

New users might -- it's a common enough UI idiom; maybe it's based on UX feedback and/or telemetry. Also, the stated reason for its addition was to give a similar look across Evernote platforms (I think that was in a Windows beta topic a couple of months ago).

The spacing between top-level entries in the side panel (New button excepted) appears to be consistent, 31 pixels. *shrug* Everybody's a UI expert (except me)...

Ditto. It's like that note on my refrigerator door; it's right there in front of me every day, but I barely notice it. If it's ever an option, I'll probably remove it, if I get around to it.

The nice part about the toolbar (I assume that that's what you mean by 'topbar', unless you're referring to the Mac app) button is that it's optional. The other nice part about it is that there are actually two toolbar buttons, one of which gives you the option to create notes of different kinds (Note, Ink Note, Audio Note, etc.), not that I ever create any of those fancy types of notes...

Evernote is rolling out the "different notes" feature with a long press of the note button.  IMG_2129.jpg.c98c206d0fb58e152411b07993e84bd8.jpg
We've seen this on the IOS platform

But Long Press is a mobile convention that I have n*e*v*e*r before used on my windows (or any) desktop.  Adding that in the desktop version is completely counter-intuitive.  And I agree.  Put the button there in the side bar if you want - where it sticks out like a sore thumb - but give users the option to switch it off (or to move it to the toolbar) just like the shortcuts options...

I know we're rearranging deckchairs,  but this is one of those change-for-change-sake things where time could be better spent in so many other ways...

Hi, I have a feature request,

I hope evernote can provide the Option To Hide Add Note Button in the left upper corner,

Since I know I can Use Ctrl + N to create new note,

So I really really don't  need this button,

besides this button is very huge and obstuct my view to the structure of Notes,

so I hope I can choose to hide this button,

wish it can be evluated, thank you!

Beacuse in the older version without this button, the whole note structure is complete and clear full fill the left panel,

which make me me feel more comfortable,

but now this button is like to occupy a piece of territory of original territory of notes structure,

so I feel disturbed.

p.s. I'm not highly familiar with English now, so the use of word might not be so precise, I guess the word "obstruct" may be too strong, if I use "disturb" will be weaker and better. I describe it a bit exaggerately deliberately.

Choice is good.  If they are going to jack up our rates, then I don't think it's too much to ask that we have an option to turn off their dumb ideas.  Evernote needs to revamp their design team...it's getting embarrassing and I'm tired of seeing the ideas of users being ignored.  I no longer recommend Evernote to anyone.

I'm still irritated that I have to squint when reading posts on this website because someone decided that light gray text on white was a good design choice.

Hi.  It isn't so much that ideas are ignored,  as Evernote don't have any obligation to listen - or provide a forum like this - in the first place.  Suggestions are always welcomed,  but they are just that: requests and suggestions.

The basic account is still free.  The software is still free.

Since I'm a paying customer, then yes, they have an obligation to listen.  If I were using the free version...then no, I wouldn't have any reason to expect support of any kind.

Actually,  they really don't - check your account T&C's.  You're certainly entitled to support for technical issues and bugs,  but changing the features or the look of the app isn't either of those things.

You are correct.

Also, not listening to your customers is usually a fast way to go out of business.  I would be curious to see what their numbers are today vs just 3 years ago.

Evernote will pay no more attention to this than the dark theme, which started in 2013 and the most recent post was 3/16/18.

We are a business user with several employees using evernote.  It really gripes me when I see them come out with big new features like work chat and spaces, when so much of the program needs to be fixed and or vastly improved.

I believe that you'll find that Evernote is happy to listen to ideas, complaints, bugs and suggestions from any user, paid or otherwise (in particular, the forums here have no check on paid vs. free users). They don't always respond, but are always respectful, in my experience. With respect to suggestions , though, listening may not result in changes to the software. It's the way of any product.

A web search on "Evernote users" turned up this: https://www.cnet.com/news/evernote-raised-prices-got-more-of-us-to-sign-up/ (dated Oct 11, 2017) and this: https://www.statista.com/statistics/446885/number-of-evernote-users/ (current to mid 2016), among other articles....

This button kills my desire to use Evernote :(( I can't ignore it. It distracts from the list of notebooks, it should not be on this panel in terms of logic...

So, can we wait for the change?
