Spam ads in Evernote note titles

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Today my Evernote started automatically suggesting the title of "NFL Jersey only 15 USD, Shop Now!" for new notes, which is the same message as the iCalendar spam going around.

I have Lookout anti-virus which doesn't detect anything and I've changed my password on another device but I cannot get it to stop suggesting that spam message.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Is it a note being emailed/spammed to your Evernote account? If so, you should change your email address. You should probably do this from a PC. Go to your Evernote account online at www.evernote.com and log in, then go to your settings. Click on Account Summary, then way at the bottom is your Evernote address. Hitting "reset" will change that address.

You'll need to change that address in any contact and/or service you've given it to for legitimate emails into your account.

The spam messages in the calendar is a known problem and Apple is working on a solution

You might want to turn off the suggested title feature in Evernote

Thanks for the responses EdH and DTLow.

It's just in the suggested title when I make a new note on my phone. On desktop (web browser) it doesn't do it.

I turned off suggested titles, but I'm more concerned with how it's doing this? Does my phone have a virus? Account hacked?

No, no virus. @DTLow's suggestion is probably more valid. There is a lot of meeting invite spam going on with iCloud right now. You are getting those spam invites, and Evernote can see your calendar (you granted it permission when you installed it) and you have suggestions turned on, so when you create a new note during the time frame of a meeting, it selects the meeting title as the subject. Can be handy when at work. Not so much when it is a spam invite to buy some Oakley sunglasses.
