Ann: "Alexa, enable the My Notebook skill" to take notes in Evernote

Recommended Posts

I've just published an Amazon Echo skill which lets you create Evernote notes.

To enable it, say "Alexa, enable the My Notebook skill".  You'll need to link to your Evernote account in the Alexa app (it just asks for permission to write notes).

Then you can say "Alexa, tell My Notebook I've hidden the kids ipads under the sofa".

It will respond with "I've added I've hidden the kids ipads under the sofa to Evernote",.

Now you'll never have the embarrassing situation where you confiscate your kids' screens and then forget where you put them.  Or is that just me?

Very cool, Damien!

For folks to know: notes created by this service will go into your default Personal notebook.

(I did have it misinterpret my speech a few times in creating note text, but that's Alexa's fault, not yours!)

That's a great idea. I don't yet have Alexa and I am looking into whether or not it would be useful for my house. Specifically I would want it for a skill similar to this. How would you recall the note? For example could you ask "Alexa, where did I hide the kids' ipads?" or would it be something like "Alexa, pull up the note on where I hid the ipads", and she would read back the whole note? It would be an amazing tool for Alzheimer's patients and others with memory issues to have a tool that could "remember" things for them. Ex: my grandfather was unable to remember if he had fed the dog in the morning and sometimes ended up feeding him several times. As he was feeding the dog he could tell Alexa that he fed the dog breakfast today and ask her later if he had. I could tell Alexa that I put the extra batteries in the far right hand drawer of the kitchen and when I needed them I could ask her where I put them...

Alexa: "I can't find that skill"

Is it because I'm in Canada?

I think you need to say "Alexa, enable the My Notebook skill, eh?"

:)

[Sorry, gratuitous cheap joke from someone who lives in a US state bordering Canada with lots of French Canadian influence (Maine). No offense intended towards our friends from the North, and hope that you get your Alexa problem resolved.]

Hi Darryl,

I've just submitted it for certification in Canada.  Unfortunately it isn't just a question of checking an additional checkbox.  Hopefully it will be approved quickly.

For which other countries is this available? I am in Germany and would be curious to test.

Also just wondering, whether evernote is aiming to provide eventually an official skill!?!

Being able to search and listen to evernote notes would be very valuable. To keep things more manageable, how about only from your "Alexa" notebook where all Alexa-added notes would reside. Or be able to tell Alexa which notebook to search.

Hi @damian

Does it work with Brazilian Portuguese Language ?

I'm new using Alexa and an old Evernote user. But I do not know how to link Alexa with Evernote, cause only thing I did was to link IFTTT with Alexa and it adds items to my shopping list and it works in portuguese too.

I have been using the Alexa to Evernote Skill for the past two years and was wondering if there was a way to automatically have it dump the notes in a specifical setup notebook instead of the unsigned notebook?

No I'm afraid not - I wanted to keep it super-simple, so notes go to your default notebook.
