Failed to decrypt content

I have an important note, which is partially decrypted. I use this note I would say 2-4 times a week. The password has not changed for a couple of months at least. I use this decrypted note regularly on:

• Android phone (Galaxy A5 2016)
• Mac OS Yosemite (Evernote 6.4)
• and web app (via Chrome on Mac OS)

Today, like usual, I try to access the note in question via my Android phone, and I get "failed to decrypt content" - I retype the password - same message.

So I go to the web app and I get the following prompt (see attached). This is the first time I have ever seen this message (and again, this password is at least 2 months old). Also the password in question meets (and has always met) these criteria.

So finally I go on my Mac Evernote, and here, no problems at all. The note decrypts like usual.

I try another note with the same exact password, this one opens just like usual (no problems) on all devices: android, mac, and web.

So what exactly is going on here? As the information I save on Evernote is important, these kinds of "bugs" worry me. Did anyone have similar problems lately? What causes them?

By the way, permanently decrypting the file, then encrypting it again (with the same password) on my Mac worked. And now the note opens as usual on Mac, web, and android.   

Which doesn't change the fact that this just shouldn't happen. What if it didn't open anywhere? What if the only device I had was Android, and getting the information from the note was crucial.

This is not cool Evernote, and it makes me wonder if I can depend on this tech going forward.

Hi.  Welcome to the wonderful world of computing,  where bad things can happen,  and usually choose the worst time and the worst location to do so.  There is some history to the fact that note content encrypted in one OS doesn't always decrypt properly in others.  The fix,  as you've already discovered,  is to re-encrypt it - maybe on a different OS - to resume normal operations.  AFAIK - and others here are welcome to contradict me if they know different - there has never been a case of content being incapable of decryption on any platform.  As long as you have the original OS from which you encrypted the note body,  your actual content is 100% safe.  If the only device available to you were Android,  and a note had been encrypted in MacOS and was undecryptable in Android,  you could try Evernote Web in any web browser,  or use any computer with that OS.  Almost certainly inconvenient,  true.  But not critical.

No need for the cheeky intro Guru, but all the same thank you for the bit about no reported cases of decryption failing across all platforms. This is very reassuring indeed.

That being said, I have used various notes with encryption for years now. Across 5 platforms (Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android & Web app). And I never ran into this problem. So (A) I figured it might be worthwhile to report it here and (B) find out if others have had similar problems as of late.

My gut feeling is that the Android App (which autoupdates for me) could be the cause of the problem. If this issue occurs again I will report back.

I get the same message but so far no one at Evernote is able to help. My issue is that I can access on my (PW protested) word doc on my Macbook Pro but will not work if I try and open this same word doc on my iphone. Never had this issue before the latest update.

Evernote was notified of this issue from me about a week ago but still no remedy. If this is not fixed soon I will need to look for a different note app.
