Can't update to Evernote 6.3.3 in Windows 7

Recommended Posts

I click "Download", the progress bar runs to completion, and then get a message: "Unable to download the update.  Please try again later."  This has happened repeatedly for several days.

I'm running Evernote 6.1.2.2292 on a Windows 7 machine.

I also have windows 7, 64 bit.  I got a automatic upgrade to windows 10,  found that I could go back to Windows 7 and did.

About says I have 6.1.2.2290. I keep getting an update to 6.4.2 but get an error message "feature not available".

Trying to uninstall Evernote (It then says I have 6.0.6) I get an error message "The feature trying to use in unavailable".

So I can't update or uninstall Evernote.  Any ideas?

Hi.  Seems like you may have the remaining bits of more than one version of Evernote on your system.  Best advice would be to try removing the existing package with (free) Revo Uninstaller - http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Before you start though,  do copy your Databases folder to your desktop as a backup.  Evernote > Tools > Options > General for the location (assuming you can get in). The Revo uninstalls should not affect your database folder - that's a backup just in case.

If Revo doesn't recognise the existing installation,  you may have to reinstall v6.1.2 and/ or even 6.0.6 and then uninstall it properly to be able to update.  http://filehippo.com/download_evernote/history  for previous versions.

Please be aware that we're not Evernote as such,  just a (mostly) user-supported forum;  if you're a paying subscriber it's a good idea to contact support directly at https://help.evernote.com/hc/requests/new (premium subscribers can chat from the same link) - or anyone can message them on Twitter via https://twitter.com/evernotehelps

@dconnet was confirming what I said earlier - that you need to reinstall the original Evernote version to repair the MSI file,  which will then allow you to uninstall it normally.  Since you're getting messages about two different versions,  this might be a little more complicated than normal...  Download your previous version installers from the FileHippo link I gave you,  and try one;  if that doesn't let you uninstall normally,  try the other.  If they both fail check back here for a possible magical mystery tour of registry settings... but let's not go there yet!

Edit: and in case I didn't say this before - get a backup copy of your databases folder onto your desktop just in case all this activity does something bad.  :)
