  1. Hi, I have the professional membership of Evernote. Could you restore the function that can search notebook in the "web clipper"? I think it's waste a lot of time to pull down menu when we without that function.
  2. In the "add a tag" box, I can either add a tag that already exists, or create a new one. But in the Notebook box to the left of that, I can only add a notebook that already exists. This frustrates me all the time, and is inconsistent UX design. Here's the case... I'm processing my notes, and I want to move a note to the notebook for Project X. But I can't recall if I have that notebook already. I type it into the box, and it doesn't show up. Now I have to go over to the left navigation pane (and sometimes scroll) to get to the "add a Notebook" button. I don't see why this can't be done from the project look-up box within a note since it can be done with tags. Alternatively, create a "New Notebook" button that can be added in the "Customize Toolbar" area with the "New Note" etc. buttons. Thanks!
  3. Hello, Let me present my idea for improving UX on Windows app. I have noticed that while creating a note I can't click whenever I want on the white sheet to focus text area. Why would I want that? Because it's useful - right now I find it sometimes frustrating having to look for the active click area. I have attached an image to picture the problem. My suggestion is to expand the click area to the whole white section. I hope someone would find it sensible too Best, Pawel
  4. Web related: #1: Repeatedly having to click a link as a frequent user creates frustration. New users will sign up, they don't need it to be the front-and-center call to action of the page to do so. #2: Landing page after log in should be the "Notes" page, not prompting you to create a new note. Notes, by their nature, are referred to more so than they are created. Mobile: #3: Clicking anywhere, as opposed to the icon in the lower right corner, should initiate editing a note. IDEALLY: wherever a user clicks within the note is where a cursor should automatically land, instantly opening editing mode in the spot clicked. I love Evernote, and correcting these 3 issues would make me love it even more! Please feel free to add an UX-related issues to this thread. If these have been mentioned before, I apologize in advance - mods, edit accordingly.
  5. Hi! I'm unable to add tag to a note if I use external hardware keyboard only. I can open note info dialog using command shift I, but I can't enter the tag - the input box is not in focus and I didn't find a way to give it a focus without tapping on screen. Could you please add ability to add tags using keyboard only? Thank you!
  6. The Evernote TILE VIEW made it possible to leverage my robust human visual system to search and recall all kinds of notes out of the 5,000 I have. In Jan, they got rid of that view. Why? In my view, Silicon Valley is filled with hubris and ego. New product managers always want to make a bold statement. They want to make a change. They make up some excuse and test it out on a few people. But I have something on my side. A cog psych degree, and the knowledge that our human visual processing system is over half of our brain and by far the most sophisticated and advanced system of our human senses. I could scroll through literally hundreds of research pieces, articles, or other things I'd saved in a matter of a few minutes. It felt like a miracle to me the first time I realized this. Evernote basically improved my memory and productivity by a factor of 10 or 100x based on this single feature alone. Now I just found out on Jan 18 they got rid of that view. WHY? It is just stunning to me. Now all I get is basically exactly what I had with Dropbox or Google drive. I am now going to have to figure out how to export all 5,000 of my notes. What a terrible development. Thanks for nothing Evernote.
  7. Seems like it'd take less space to just put the "π" instead of the "More".
  8. Hi! I'm really enjoying the webclipper's options for articles and simplified articles, but when it comes to displaying the articles in the evernote app, the layout is so messy that it becomes a rather unpleasant task to read it all. My proposal is to simply justify the text in a narrowed collumn in the middle, and maybe tone down the background as it is done in the preview of the simplified articles. Probably the best solution would be show this as an option in the articles command line.
  9. You should add a button for existing users to log in below the signup button. I have to click the sign in link on top even though Chrome has auto-populated the login and password area. Its not a big deal but just annoying that I'm prompted to sign up every time I visit the site
  10. Problem description I have a perfectly synch'd account I search for a particular note I know I have with a 4 word text search. The full client (Mac) takes <1 second, returns 26 notes and the one I was looking for is the first result. It has to be the first result, because the 4 words are in the note title! The web client (Chrome) takes 5 seconds, returns 25 notes and the one I was looking for is the 11th result. By Google search standards, that's page 2 (aka 'the best place to hide a body') This is a highly inconsistent and dis-satisfactory UX for the web client. Are there ways around the poor web search or are updates in the making?
  11. I just tried to leave feedback about file upload from iOS, and it was so tough that I'm instead suggesting an easier way to leave feedback. Seriously, you have to make an account on forums to leave feedback? On evernote Web, in the user's dropdown menu there are options for account settings, help&support, contact support (which doesn't actually let you contact suport on basic accounts, that's some pretty awful UX), and log out. There should also be one for 'suggestions'. It should link to a place where you can leave tagged general suggestions. The UX and PM people at Evernote should have direct access to what lands there. For example, I could say: ----------- In iOS, when uploading files for instance from the Voice Memos app, it appears to have worked, but when I go to Evernote Web in a browser it appears not to have worked, as no note is present. This seems horribly buggy. If you wait long enough, you find it just didn't have any upload progress indicator to let you know how long it would be. If, while you were waiting, you tried again, for example on a 15MB file, you will eventually find that it worked, but you wasted a weeks worth of Evernote Basic data upload allocation due to the double upload. That's really awful UX. Whenever a freemium service at the free tier does not provide the full free tier services, it makes me want to do the opposite of upgrading. It makes me want to migrate out to something else. If instead of the dialog closing when the upload begins, it should give a progress bar and a 'close and continue upload in background' button or something. Tags: Upload, upload status, UX, usability, Visibility of system status, Error prevention, Help users recover from errors ------------ Then your UX people can read my suggestion, and attempt to figure out exactly what I was trying to accomplish and why it didn't work out for me. They can get as deep in my head as they like about what different parts of my process made me feel. If you have an email address field that says "please leave your email address so our UX people can learn more about what you were trying to accomplish (optional)", they can even ask me. Then they can come up with some ways to serve my needs, pick one, and implement it. Trust me. I work in a big software company that has these issues too, and as a UX person it would make my life much easier and my company's product much better to have this suggestion box or something like it. Make that pathway.
  12. Hi There, not sure if this was already questioned (didn't found anyhing). In the new client on Windows 6.1.1, you have the possebility to add Tags to your search by clicking on the tag-search-icon or simply by adding "tag:xyz" to your query. Now it comes the new feature that all child tags from this selected tag will be included into the search. This happens only on the Icon, the search term "tag:xyz" returns what i'm searching for. - But I want to have only tags which are especially tagged with the tag from my search. Due to the lag of autocomplete in the search field it's really uncomfortable to enter each tag I want to search manually (especialla when the are long like: "1997.00-1998.00 - Eberswalde; Eisenbahnstr. 80" ). Example Tag Tree (note count): xyz (5) sub1 (5) sub2 (5) sub3 (5) My (icon) search for tag:xyz returns 20! notes instead of 5 I'm searching for. I know, this is a usefull feature added to the new client, but is there a way to search exclusiv for notes tagged with "xyz" ignoring all childs. May there is an kind of search grammar I missed? like "tag:xyz -childs" Also: there is a bug/feature: If I create a new note, based on my search - It creates note with ALL tags, where I only selected ONE. But I can't delete the unwanted tags from the note Thanks Zsolt
  13. I don't know if you call this a "banner" or what, but I want my Evernote reminders/alerts to pop up big and bold on my phone when they go off, instead of hiding up in the notification bar on my Android phone. Basically, I want them to look like what I see when I get a text message and my screen is locked (I use Textra for texts). I think this can be done on iPhone, but not Android for some reason. Q1) Are there plans in the works? Q2) Would anyone else find this useful? I had a somewhat OK work-around with Sunrise calendar, but that's going away in August. Even the Sunrise notification isn't quite what I'm looking for. I like that it gives one notification for each calendar entry (where Evernote reminders are seen as calendar entries I guess), but I'd like it to show up right in the center of my screener, just like a text message, whether locked or not. The use case is that I use Evernote as a reminder system. I create one note for every task I have to do, and then do a draft version of the work in the note (or attache the docs I need). So when it comes time to do the task, I want that alert to be obvious. I could, of course, keep these in my calendar, but I follow GTD, which recommends using the calendar just for things that have to be done at a specific day/time. So the rest of my next actions go into Evernote. I've tried some of the GTD-specific apps, but their either too slow or too convoluted for me, and I like Evernote's simplicity. Q3) Any other work-around ideas (e.g., can I have evernote send me an email/text on a timer that would pop up the way I want) Q4) Any other calendar apps or similar reminder apps that people are using and work well with Evernote? Specifically GTD-based would be great. Thanks in advance!
  14. How do I quickly find the source of this notification that appears in my Mac Dock: I interpret this as meaning I have one notification from EN Mac. But how do I find out what it is? When I switch to EN Mac, there is NOTHING that happens to inform me about this notification. I click on the notification bell, and it says I have nothing new: When I open, or switch to EN Mac, shouldn't the Notification bell show the same count of pending notifications that are shown on the Dock icon? Did anyone at Evernote even give this a basic workflow test? Come on guys, this is basic UX 101 design and testing. I know you can do much better than this!
  15. Evernote Team -- Please Don't Use Low Contrast Text Dear Evernote UI designers, web masters, and email broadcasters, could you please not use small, low contrast text in the main text body of your products and documents? I know you may think the color scheme looks really cool, and complies with your corporate branding, but what is the point of your cool communications if they can't be read, or, are so hard to read that people ignore them? Isn't the FIRST objective of an email, web page, or app to communicate well, and be readable to the viewer? Below is a screen shot of an email that I just received. What is the benefit of using very light gray text on a white background? Compare these two lines: I know you may think the color scheme looks really cool, and complies with your corporate branding, but what is the point of your cool communications if they can't be read, or, are so hard to read that people ignore them? I know you may think the color scheme looks really cool, and complies with your corporate branding, but what is the point of your cool communications if they can't be read, or, are so hard to read that people ignore them? Do you see the clear difference? Do you see how much easier it is to read the first line than the second line? Yes, I can read the second line if I get close to my monitor, and study the text carefully. But is being cool worth the loss of readability? SNAPSHOT OF EMAIL FROM EVERNOTE EDIT: I'm not sure what happened to the above link, but it will no longer display. Here's the link:
  16. Could I please ask for a more convenient way of changing the note creation date? Right now it requires opening note information popover (Shift-Command-I). My workflow when scanning receipts and other documents is to change note creation date to the date of the receipt or document, set note title and tags, and file it in a notebook. Of all these items only creation date requires a keystroke/mouse click to open a separate window (and that popover window very inconveniently doesn't close when I press Escape, but that's a different issue). It would be great if note creation date could be changed directly in the note window, just as I can currently change note tags, title and notebook. Thank you!
  17. Here's a screenshot showing a good example of Evernote's problem. I search for the phrase fire and rainfall, because I know that the article I am looking for has those exact words in its note title, in that exact order. But Evernote decides that, no, I don't actually want to see a note titled 'fire and rainfall' which contains many instances of 'fire' and 'rainfall' in its body text, so it demotes that to the third search result while promoting two other notes. which only mention 'fire' and 'rainfall' once in the entire note. That I can wrap quotes around my query to search for the exact phrase is irrelevant. The user doesn't always remember the exact phrase they're looking for, but the user certainly expects that notes with the phrase appearing in the title and the keywords appearing multiple times within should be displayed as the best result.
  18. It took me a long time across two separate attempt sessions to submit a bug about the Android app upgrade process. When I finally got into the right track on evernote.com, I was presented with German options. (See attached.) I'm in the US and I don't speak German. The real tragedy is that all my frustration began when I tried to send you guys money. However, this became really funny once I stepped back and pretended that someone was telling me a story about this experience.
  19. It is available on the Mac client. If it was available on the web client, then the Delete Confirmation popup could be made optional.
  20. So ( almost everytime ) I hit the sync button in Evernote , I invariably click it another time as it is slow to respond and finally use the menu item to sync my notes. Wondering if others face it too ?
  21. First, in brief, I'd like to say that as a paying customer (although this should go just as much for people who don't pay), I really don't appreciate a public release of a new version being a sly mass beta to help you fix things. You can play around and change and add and remove features to your heart's content, but if something is actually broken - as a number of things are, as you'll see from this forum - it is an essential business courtesy, in my opinion, that it should not make a general release. I would rather wait longer and remain productive with version 4 than be offered the shininess of version 5 while soon finding myself troubleshooting trivial problems before eventually reverting to the old .exe I always keep to hand. That said, now that I was roped into this beta-by-another-name, I can tell you one thing that's broken at least. Notebook renaming. Don't know if it's for everyone, but a fix for me has defied restarting/logging out/reinstalling. If I go to rename a notebook or a notebook stack, when I press enter or click away, the title will revert to what it was previously. This is most frustrating for new notebook stacks because we therefore have no choice but to leave them named "Notebook Stack", which is not exactly conducive of customised organisation. Visually, there are other basic problems, such as the bottom of the notes in the right panel often looking strange - the grey background frequently seeps into the white background of the note, with a hovering line like a horizontal bar that, obviously, I didn't put there. You're not doing too bad with the service you provide, and you're no doubt keeping a great many happier customers than me, but at the moment, I very much feel that I'm using Evernote because it is the least bad of all the note-keeping alternatives, rather than finding it enjoyable to use because it's actually good, and it surprises me how limited note-taking software still is in general. I mean, I'm no software programmer, but is 2013 still too technologically early for people to have reliable syncing/reminders/text and table formatting/encrypted notes/print quality in a single package? I spend more of my time organising a substandard system into a useable one than I do actually keeping my life organised. Grumble, grumble.
  22. i think a "star" function will be useful. if you think one entry is important , you can star it, just like the function fulfilled in Gmail and some others. but now, i can only use the tag function to substitute this function, and it does not work well..
  23. I think Evernote is the best information collection solution around, but their distance to the users doesn't make me that huge fan who stays no matter what. I will probably switch as soon as another company is doing the same thing but also gives me the feeling that they are listening. With XX million users I understand that they can't listen to everyone, still I think they could try harder. Instead of making their main product bullet proof, they are acquiring other companies and releasing apps like "Hello" and “Food” It looks like they try to follow the same strategy as Apple and Google, kings within their segment and still have good products, but hopeless to confront with bugs, feature requests and road maps. Will one or more of them end up just like monsters like IBM, Microsoft and many others, growing away from their customers? Will soon Evernote have to buy trend analysis to find out where to go? Because when companies start to buy trend analysis, they prove that they have lost the contact with the customers and their segment, right? It is so hard to be a big company and listen to the little people. I can even be very specific: Why do the latest Windows update includes a new fancy way to process multiple notes, like save attachments, while the file attachment handling within the notes still have stupid bugs like copy & paste, or dragging. And Image rotating: excellent! But the whole text and image formatting is quite bad and not what you expect in 2012. Do they know their product well enough? Do they know their users well enough? To some extent, of course they do. But do the customers feel they do? I'm happy to hear from anyone, but hopefully some Evermore employers also can join in, so the customers can be saved from the guessing and speculation :-) Lars Kristian A
