  1. Hi everyone! Firstly, evernote Rocks! Thank you for this amazing app :-) I find myself switching between notes very frequently, some notes are quite long, thus scrolling becomes very time consuming. The workaround is to keep the notes i access most, opened on a separate window - Clutter's my mac's workspace, but at least keeps my notes open on the last accessed position Would be nice as default function, else a selectable setting under preference. Please work your magic and keep evernote rocking :-)
  2. I have some very long notes, and i move between different notes. Whenever i come back to a note, i need to scroll all the way down to add text, or find the position i was at. desired behavior: If possible, allow us to choose if upon opening a note, the cursor moves: 1. to the beginning of the note 2. to the end 3. to the same position i was at when I last visited the note. Allow us to override it for specific notes or notebooks. Evernote is great - let's make it even better. Thanks.
  3. When you are using creating tables in a note on mac and you are trying to navigate to input cells, it only goes left to right (as in up_key=left down_key=right). Instead it would make usability better if you could use the Excel style of inputing, as in Left/Right/Up/Down navigation with arrow keys Tab to go to next column's cell Enter to go to next row's cell
  4. Hi, something that I don't like about the Evernote web clipper is the maximum size of its input fields: note title tag Scrolling is a pain in these little input fields! This applies to Safari & Chrome, which I use, and probably all other browsers. Please make those fields grow dynamically.
  5. Add an option to view full notes, one after another, like an endless stream of notes. save me from having to open multiple notes just to review them drawn one after another on the screen, with some visual separation I can see a bunch of short notes all at once I can scroll through a series of notes like browsing a long document, for easy review still be able to make this note view full screen so I can see more of the notes at once, more like flipping through my notebook now. the existing list of notes would still provide a convenient way to jump around a large list of notes (say to get to a specific point in time in my notes) Hopefully this is not a duplicate. Related / Complimentary Feature Requests (that I don't believe replace this) Presentation mode for multiple notes (but I want this for regular navigation and even note editing) https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/99898-presentation-mode-for-entire-notebooks-tags-or-selections-of-notes/ Quickly move between notes (but I want to see multiple notes on the screen at once) https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/100378-quickly-move-to-next-previous-note/ Tagging blocks of text within a note (this view could show that tagged block in this view, kind of a "note within a note" feature, which would be awesome) https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/100942-feature-request-tagging-portions-of-text/
  6. When a note is consisting of just one single PDF the concept of showing the thumbnail isn't really satisfying. Especially with small, one or two-page PDFs, why aren't they displayed directly with a double click taking the user to the existing full screen viewer!?
  7. I'd like an easy way to automate evernote. Example automations I'd like to write at things like: add a daily diary page with customizable content (like a list of things to do) when I create a note with tag "foo", create a second note with a title based on the original one etc. I've tried the evernote api but haven't been able to get Oauth to work (I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but that stuff is seriously complicated). If the Evernote engine contained a python interpreter and a way to attach a script to a page so that it would be run on user-specifiable triggers (time of day, page open, page create, etc.), I think that would fill the bill.
  8. You should add a button for existing users to log in below the signup button. I have to click the sign in link on top even though Chrome has auto-populated the login and password area. Its not a big deal but just annoying that I'm prompted to sign up every time I visit the site
  9. I create lengthy notes both on my PC and on my phone. As I get to the end of the screen, my notes sit there at the bottom and sometimes even fall off the bottom of the screen. It looks terrible, and makes me wonder if there is more text below what I'm typing or not, as I can't see if there is or isn't. My fix? I add a couple hard returns at the end of the note so that the space is there for me visually. Evernote fix? Force the bottom of the note to scroll slightly upward so there is always a line or two worth of space at the bottom of each note.
  10. Hi Everyone, This may be an old topic by now, but I can't seem to find a clear answer. Will the old/classic version of the web interface continue to be supported for the foreseeable future, or is the plan to remove it once the new interface is no longer in Beta? I've had to switch most of my Evernote activity to the web interface and decided that I would not be paying for the service and have been looking (unsuccessful) into alternatives for quite some time. I'd never seen the old web interface, so I didn't know it was there. After discovering it, and switching my settings, it's an amazing difference. I can again quickly jump between notes without having to fumble around with a search or a shortcuts menu. It's MUCH more efficient for my purposes. If Evernote has stated somewhere that this interface will remain a permanent option, I will be purchasing a subscription. Can anyone direct me to this information? Thanks.
  11. As phone makers battle to up the pixels it makes photos taken on the phone huge, on the devices they look crisp and stunning in proportion on the device screen. However in the evernote desktop app they appear so large that it makes writing text around them and formatting them really hard and even after editing them and making them smaller if you move them they revert back to their incredibly huge size. I'm asking for pictures to be displayed at a default size with the option to view them at their huge over the top size with a little tap or to be able to edit picture quality within evernote. Anyone else feeling this?
  12. The Web Clipper 'simplified article' format does a great job of extracting the essentials of a web page without unnecessary clutter. However, it should NOT in my opinion remove the <blockquote> tag. Here's why. The left-margin indent created by this tag marks the beginning and end of text from a specific source. Removing this indent will often destroy the meaning of the article by making it impossible to figure out who said what. Here is a typical example: http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/gary-johnson-offers-measured-support-nsa-whistleblower-gary-johnson Read this piece without the indents and it becomes impossible to tell for sure where one person's remarks end and another begins!
  13. With each new version in the last year or two I've received little of value in the upgrades yet I've seen an annoyingly large drop in quality and usability where it counts. Simple note editing has gotten more buggy. For example, encryption features are worse than when it began. My mac and iphone cannot even read my encrypted notes anymore, only on Windows. I've lost encrypted notes a couple of times and had to go back to history. I can't add a hyperlink into an encrypted note anymore because as soon as the link dialog pops up the crypt collapsed and the link goes outside. None of this was an issue before. The suggested notes that keeps popping up at the bottom alters the view of the current note and is also *very* disrupting to flow. A nice feature, pretty, and I bet it took a lot of developer hours to implement but with no consideration to how it disrupts the user flow I had to disable it - wasted time that could have been spent fixing bugs. I am a developer, so I bet like most devs, Evernote's devs are more excited about working on new features than spending time getting the existing and oft used stuff working better. We've all heard the Pareto's Law (80/20 rule). All these features are in the 20% used category and are causing regressions on the quality of the features we use 80% of the time. This is where I felt Apple was great in the past, they focused on that 80% of what is used and spent twice as much time making it perfect as say Windows would, so everything is well thought out....not as much superfluous features but each feature a masterpiece. I need to return to version 4.2 or something. That brings up another point, every install/upgrade still fails with an error! I have to go find the MSI deep in my profile temp folder and execute it manually. Been that way since 4.4. Lot's of people are in the same boat here...why hasn't this been fixed? Kind of critical isn't it? Sure, there have been some cool features added - like the Chat, better Notebook sharing, etc. I've converted a number of people to Evernote in the past, including my business partner so better interaction with friends was wanted. I was looking forward to these new features yet I find they came and I haven't needed them as much as I expected. Rather than reap the rewards of these features I can't get over the loss of quality to the core product. I used to be a product evangelist. Now I no longer recommend Evernote to anyone and that is sad. My converts are saying the same thing so only my business partner is left anyway. I love new features, but not if they are breaking old and needed functionality. I'm a premium user, if the quality of Evernote's usability continues to fall over the next year I am abandoning it for something else. Please work making the core better. Sit your developers or testers down and have them *really* use the product. I want to be an evangelist again. Colin
  14. Skitch has been a long-favored tool of mine and anywhere I go for years! However, with the cumbersome resize UI (which I eventually found only after a couple years of using the "new" version), I find myself always having to go in and resize down ~30% to make screenshots reasonable to share. Would it be useful to anyone else to be able to set a default smaller size to start with? (Note: Far superior would be to bring back to the old style window stretch to resize, document border handles to crop UI)
  15. Hi all, Since the work chat has been introduced I am a little totally confused with the sharing feature. Many of my notebooks are shared with individuals. Formerly I could manage them all in the Permissions sheet. Now I open the permission sheet and after a click on "Share Notebook…" it disappears and the work chat windows opens. This is where I get lost! Do I start now chatting with a new person? Where came all the contacts in the list from? Do I have to start at the top of the window or just enter a new name at the bottom of the window? Even I have shared now 5-10 new people since the feature was introduced, I can't memorize that! To Evernote: I now, you're working very hard to improve your tool. But combining these two features is not that natural that you may thought first. Please fix that! Thanks Frank
  16. I'll try to be short but the list is long. Rephrasing: I will try to be concise. In summary: This Beta suffers from "cleanliness" over practicality. Seems to have been designed by a visual designer with little care for actual use of the tool. I hope that the developers in charge pay attention and revel against the designer driven interface. It seems to have been optimized for use on a tablet screen browser. Whatever happened to true responsive design? I will try to get time to do a video to show these and other observations. Before you discard my comments as reaction to change, please consider that I am a developer and architect who is rarely OK with the status quo. I thrive under change and understand the need for change: Keeps things fresh and current Allows trying new ideas Challenges previous assumptions Helps you adapt to new circumstances And many others These aren't pet peeves just because I am "used" to the current interface. These are actual usability concerns The current production version has a responsive interface that adapts to the available browser space. If I am on my Laptop screen it looks good. If I am on my 24" or 32" monitors it looks good. I can see my notebooks, my notes and my tags on the same page. On the beta version, I don't see the notebooks or notes when I am editing. Now I need to click several times to go from Notebook to notebook. When using a large screen the note is just in the middle of the screen with plenty of white space around. If I resize the browser, the note area resizes but the list of notes do not resize correspondingly. By the way, in a big monitor is clear that even the notes area resizes only up to a point, after that, it leaves the white bands at both sides. To make matters worst, the icons area at the top of the note, resize to the full with and makes it look as it is not part of the note. The non beta version resizes nicely as a really responsive application. I wish there was a word for wost than wost (worster?) As I start typing a note, the list of notebooks disappear. Sometimes notes are reminders of other notes and I want to see them while editing. Clicking "Done" takes me out of my note and notebook and I need to do several clicks to go back to editing my note. When editing a note, There is a top drop down to select "notebook", Given that the list of notebooks do not appear elsewhere in that page, it seems it is to select a notebook not to assign the note to a notebook. When editing the editing tools are hidden (Bullet, Indentation, etc), Probably for a hard core Evernoter it is obvious, but many new users will not realize all the tools available when editing. The interface does not align to accepted browser conventions. For example: The icons do not have "hints". One has to click on the icons to figure out what they do, e.g. the "attachments" clip doesn't say what it does, when clicking, it opens what appears is another page, Same when clicking on the "i" to get information.if you click "back" on the browser it takes you out of your note, instead of back to your note. If you refresh the page while working on a note, it it takes you out of your note, instead of back to your note Icons break the conventions. e.g. the "Share" icon uses the icon usually associated with Upload. Organization of icons also breaks conventions. If notebooks are a higher level of abstraction than notes, then Notebooks should show above the notes. This is, you normally go to a notebook to go to a note. Rarely if ever you want to see all the notes regardless of organization. Sometimes it is unclear what the action icons apply to. For example, given that the "i" (information) icon on the note editing, goes all the way to the right when resizing on a big monitor, it seems that it applies to the application, not to the note. There is plenty of wasted white space, While it appears to make the interface cleaner, it also has the effect of showing less information. For example, the "Notes" list inside a notebook
  17. evernote crew, would you please implement the following: Mark note as read-only jump to recent position on note-open jump to beginning or end of notes as default open a set of notes at startup always show note title - main window and individual note window paste as plain text or rich text as default automatically add tags to new notes open a note when i press a shortcut on the shortcut bar (currently it only displays it, doesn't open in new window as it does when clicking the note in the note list. zoom in/out in individual notes, and set default zoom level (very handy on high res and/or laptop displays)
  18. When I open a note on my android app, 99% of the times I want to edit it. It's very unusable to always have to wait until loaidng view mode and then waiting egain for edit mode to load. Or using context menu to select "edit", which is slow too. I'd like to have way for directly opening edit mode in a fast way. My suggestion is: sliding a note to the right (well, all the screen) shows the left menu. Can you implement that sliding a note to the left opens its edit mode? I'll be very grateful.
  19. Not sure if this affects only to the android app or the whole Evernote system. When I end adding some text to my notes I use to end them with a line break, so when lately I open it again to add more text I am ready to begin typing on a new line. What's more: developers have rules about always finishing a document in a line break. This unnecessary cleanup is totally bugging me. Can you pleaes remove it?
  20. Every day when I open a note I want to begin adding more text at its end. But it's hard to put the caret at the end because you must tap touch your device exactly at the right of the last character of the last line. You can slide the text up until there is white space at the bottom of the note, then you say, hey, I'll touch there on thar empty space at bottom so caret will go to the end! But it doesn't work. Please can you make that white space clickable? Thanks in advance.
  21. I don't know if Evernote even pays attention to these forums, but I would like to start a thread here anyway! Evernote Product Development Team: Can you please evaluate updating the Evernote Windows OS Software Interface? It is horrendous and EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. I don't know who designed it, but the controls are way to "touchy" and not well defined. Everytime I try to navigate through it, i end up grabbing a note or a folder and dragging it somewhere i didn't want it to go and there is no "undo" feature. Every since you introduced the "stacks" feature, it is even worse. I try to scroll the list of notebooks and if you are slightly off by a pixel, or your mouse doesnt scroll perfect straight up and down, it will cause you to grab a folder and drop it onto another folder and then it creates a stack. And on the theme of stacks - please read all the other posts..... get rid of it or give us a feature to turn it off. It is annoying and useless. What's the point of having a stack if it doesn't sync across my devices and shares??? Work on a proper folder structure rather than giving us a half-hearted poor attempt at that feature. So last request - PLEASE look at redoing the user interface for Windows. It is extremely user unfriendly. Thanks, Dave
  22. The link below shows a screenshot of the Evernote App (Mac) Tags index screen: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/13/fpbp.png/ Maybe 2-3 years ago I brought this to the attention of Evernote, explaining how many of us a bit older people don't have as perfect eyes as the young developers at Evernote, and that the Tags index screen is unreadable to some of us. Now I'm back checking out Evernote again and am reminded of why I had to choose not to use it in the past, and this is one reason. I doubt it even meets website accessibility standards. I'm curious, is there anyone else out there that has extreme difficulty reading it? Please bring up the image and see for yourself. And what is the deal with developers hating on contrast these days? Do they want us all to squint or go blind? You don't see books coming out with gray text on gray pages. It's black on white or off-white. Thanks.
  23. please bring back the shortcut toolbar to the top of the window - there's so much free space there.
  24. I'm new to Evernote; I installed the windows setup file on my stand-alone desktop at home- no Evernote, I don't remember what the fail was. I've registered from my laptop using the wifi at the library this morning, but I didn't get a registration number, so I don't expect that I have anything more tangible to give it to begin its functionality. Reading these forums and the EN site, I could impute that it wants to connect to the internet to register me/activate the software, but perhaps someone can explicitly tell me that's the case, or if not, what else might be going wrong. Is it possible to register the system at the library and copy a registration key from EN's folder on my laptop to my offline desktop? I'm at the library now, so I'll take any suggestions that gather here home to try. Thanks.
  25. i'm using evernote premium on an iphone. it's a slow iphone (3GS), but still... here's a roughly averaged time it takes to go from launching 3 note apps to seeing the first text character in a new note: ios notes: 2.3 seconds simplenote: 2.4 seconds evernote: 10.8 seconds (password not activated) even when evernote is already running, the time to go from "create new text note" to seeing the first character can be approaching 10 seconds, with the wait for "tap to edit body text" permission to appear, and sometimes having to press it twice while the note location updates itself. there are only 2 reasons for opening evernote: to create a new note, edit an existing note, or view a note. on ios, for me the most common one by far is to create a new note. that 10 seconds can be an awfully long time while on the go, so i often end up using another app then pasting to evernote later, which kinda defeats the purpose of having a one-stop note app... so my feature request is either to: • have evernote do its launch sequence as quickly as the other apps • have the option for a default "new note" on launch, ready for text input • have a rapid and responsive "add note" button right on (in my case) the password screen. the time to create a note at the moment is prohibitive, and i don't need to switch on the car engine and put it in gear if all i want to do is put my lunchbox in the car...
