  1. Restoring Notes From a Mac Time Machine Backup As far as I can tell, there is no easy way to restore selected Notes from a TM backup. If you know of an easy way, PLEASE post it here -- all us Mac users really need it. EDIT: Thu, Jan 7, 2016 Since I posted this thread, I have written the following procedure: How to Restore Selected Notes from Mac Time Machine (TM) to EN Mac GrumpyMonkey and I got into a discussion about this in another thread. Our discussion was really off-topic for that thread, so I decided to start a new thread where we all could properly discuss this very important subject. I'll start with a quote from GM: GM, I would love for the process to restore selected Notes from TM to be easy. Maybe I missed something in the links you provided, but I read them all, and none of them really provided an EASY solution. In fact they all discussed how difficult/hard the process is. If I missed the easy restore process, please point it out. The problem really starts with finding the Note, or Notes that you want restored. Although the Notes are stored in files, the file name is NOT the Note Title or anything usable to the end user. In fact, I could not find the Note Title anywhere, but maybe I don't know where to look. And what if you want to restore a whole Notebook? How would you find all Notes for that Notebook?? Even if you are luck enough to find the Notes you want to restore, using TM to restore them will be a short-lived victory. As soon as you sync, your restored Note will be overwritten from the EN Cloud Service (see the quote from Ref#3). So, if you know of one source that provides detailed steps to easily restore selected Notes from TM, please post it. Here is what I found from your links: 1. https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/23558-single-file-recovery-from-time-machine/ 2. https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/14293-restore-from-time-machine/ 3. https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/20144-help-restoring-deleted-material/
  2. I'm using Evernote 6.1.1 with OS X 10.11.1. I recently did an erase and install on my Macbook, and installed a fresh copy of Evernote, did a sync with the cloud, and have almost all of my data. Except I have one or two local only notebooks I forgot about. I have a Time Machine backup, and was able to find Evernote in the /User/Library/Containers folder. I tried putting that in the /User/Library/Containers folder on the new system, but didn't see the local folders. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  3. I don't know how this happened but I realized that 90% of the note which includes my To Do list is missing. Since it's already synced from my laptop to phone, I want to pull the old copy from Time Machine. I've been reading several documents trying to figure out how to do it and I'm stumped. I don't know if my problem is on the Evernote end or the Time Machine end. To be safe, I exported all notes which have been modified since my last backup into a .enex file. I just can't figure out how to import my last backup. From this: https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/209005557, I can't seem to figure out how to find the .enex backup to do the restore. Thanks for the help.
  4. I've browsed through previous discussions on this forum so please read mine carefully before reposting answers from similar questions. When I look through my HD for notes from Evernote that I want backed up to Time Machine (TM), I find most of my notes but not all. As well, some notes claim that the last date I modified them was Dec 2015 when the most recent time I edited them on Evernote was Jan 2016. (These notes are on the _records folder within the com.Evernote.evernote folder). I am concerned because if on 'normal' mode (not TM) I cannot locate where Evernote stores all notes to the HD, then how will I be able to locate them on TM? If Evernote is not storing all notes to the HD for some reason, then how can TM back them up? Might anyone hazard a guess as to why not all my notes are appearing on the HD and how to fix it?
  5. I am a new Evernote user and thrilled about this excellent app. My only question now is that I've been told that Evernote keeps a local copy of my notes on my computer which I can and should include in my overall back up strategy. My question is: Where do I find the local copy of my Evernote notes? TIA, Ken
  6. Good morning, I restored a computer completely from a time machine backup that is about 3 weeks old. After the restoration, HUNDREDS of my local notes are without content. They include notes that have attachments, notes that are text only, new, old, recently updated, not recently updated. There is no rhyme or reason to which notes are blank and which aren't. They appear in the notes lists along with all of the other notes, and they still have titles (some have thumbnails of a generic pdf, if there was a pdf, but not all that had a pdf do) but when I click to view them or when I open them, they are utterly blank. They don't have the usual "click here to edit"; it's as though that entire section had been cut out. It can't be edited, and it can't be viewed. I've left it run for days, I've tried everything you could imagine (moving the notes, deleting all of the other notes (offline, of course) to see if they would eventually index (and then re-restored the time machine backup again after that), I've searched the library/.../ accounts/... folder that usually contains the attachments have have had no luck. I am terrified that I will not be able to recover these notes. Some of them are extremely important to me. So far I've lost hours trying anything I could imagine and searching forums, but I would be fine losing another dozen hours if it means getting my notes back. I've searched for the missing pdfs using the finder's search in the library in the hopes that would point me to the location of the other missing notes, but nothing. It's like they never existed... except they clearly did, as their titles are still there. I could use any help those of you with experience with this could provide to try to recover these notes. Thank you for any help you can provide,Mary
  7. I have been very happily using evernote premium for about a year but reached the dreaded 250 notebook max. As i am a business of 1 i don't need the Business bells and whistles as a way to continue to create more notebooks. Tags etc simply don't work for my purpose/mind. So what i want to do that would work very well for my needs if it is possible to do is this: Use Evernote only on my computer, saving through my Time Machine own system, not on Evernotes system, and then i wouldn't have a notebook limit. I can see how now i can create new notebooks as Local although i'm not sure i could do this if i weren't on my premium account? My question is this: Is there a way to save my current evernote notebooks/notes into a desktop system that is userfriendly and i can continue to use only locally? (even a way that is not userfriendly would also be helpful altho if it is not userfriendly i would probably switch over to something like onenote.) THANKS
  8. I am using a company computer that backs everything up via time machine. I would like to use my personal account on the computer through the client. However, I do not want the company to have a backup of my Evernote archive. Can I tell Time Machine to not backup the Evernote archive. If so how might I do that?
  9. Hello everyone, I've been trying to solve this problem myself unsuccessfully so i'd appreciate any help very much! I restored my mac osx 10.6.8 entirely and i've been told at the genius bar, that by using time machine (as I do) I should be able to restore all my data. So far so good. But now that I need to use evernote (you do not quiet realise how much stuff you have to reinstall/ setup again until you do...) I am facing a problem. In the EN export/ import directory it says that either backing up using TM or exporting notes into an archive would do. As I was not aware that i would have to do any of this so safe my data I was glad I am actually used to using TM. So I got the data folder from ~users/library... and c+p it into the current evernote folder. Actually following the steps in the manual I now have to open EN to archive those notebooks I just c+p. Seeing the flaw in there? It might work if I archive the notebooks before c+p them but this way they either do not show up at all or evernote keeps crashing when trying to open it up. So are my notebooks lost or is there another/ a way of restoring my notebooks? P.S. I never signed in with EN when opening the application, so there is no chance of an online version of my notebooks. To clear things up: I have never exported my notebooks into an archive, I only have my time machine ~users/library/application support/evernote/data (.enml files) Sorry for my limited english, it is not my first language
