  1. A lot of user time is wasted on not having solutions, and going around in circles, so rather than try to place some answers on my own archived note (not allowed), or into an eight page discussion note, here are what is being asked for in sorting within a note, along with some time consuming workaround solutions in the meantime. Evernote is supposed to help you organize your notes, but it is not helping you to organize the content within a note, which is critical to organization. You have tables, unordered lists, ordered lists, check lists, even word lists separated by commas or spaces, and you should be able to organize them alphabetically without having to do it without help from the application. One word of warning though, one person wanted to be able to sort automatically, and that would be a bad idea, as you won't be able to see what you are doing or continue entering without interruption, or seeing what you've added or are working on. I provided a clear example of a list that contained hyperlinks. This is something that should be available and done within Evernote, forcing users to do this manually or externally is a big waste of users time. Feature Request - Sorting lists (bulleted, ordered, checkbox) by text [dmcritchie, 2011-11-29] However since Evernote will not do this for us, here are some ways of handling this yourself. Some are very convoluted and nothing really is going to handle data with links well unless done within the application. ★ Using MS Word seems like it would handle rows with included hyperlinks [oef 2014-10-08] Try Trello - more advanced list handling than EN, including internal alphabetical list sorting. [totochto 2014-10-19], and Ticktick [gazumped 2015-01-13] want to be able to sort a todo list with check boxes, as unchecked and check, and/or alphabetically [poppy ... 2015-01-13] Example in Excel of a table with multiple columns w/o hyperlinks [shanezam203 2015-03-10] use the Excel document with Evernote [Frank.dg 2015-06-13] Some online forms that allow you to paste text then sort using any browser ★ Alphabetize Text Words (online), ★ Alphabetize a text or word list Some Firefox extensions that allow you to sort tabs and sort HTML tables before pasting into Evernote, and to collect links for selected tabs Sort Tabs :: Add-ons for Firefox, TableTools2 - Copy/Sort/Chart/Filter Table&More! :: Add-ons for Firefox, Multiple Tab Handler :: Add-ons for Firefox Having the HTML code generated from Multiple Tab Handler, you can generate the HTML and then using Real-time HTML Editor generate the rich text format to paste directly into Evernote. A bookmarklet that would work in any browser (example you can test) Keep in mind that you can view and update Evernote in a browser. Understanding what can be done elsewhere is most likely to lead to a clear definition of what is needed. When I actually did the example in the request for enhancement I used a bookmarklet [href:] to carry the link after the wording, and then had to add insert the link back in afterwards (Ctrl+K in Windows). Basically each line orrow needs a text key and a rich text component to be placed after sorting. Think of how much time would be wasted trying to do this for 200 items, or multiple lists. And I think this is something that would be acceptable just from desktop or laptop but not from small devices without keyboards, just like keyboard shortcuts, context menus, and horizontal lines that are not available on small devices, but can be seen and modified from any device. My other enhancement request, may not look related, but I can generate data that I need in HTML format using "Multiple Tab Handler" (Firefox extension) from Browser Meta tags for a selection of tabs, and if I could paste it directly into Evernote I could create some lists quickly in one step. And in the case of tabs I can even sort them beforehand with another Firefox extension, but it would be nice to not have to rely on workarouds. Feature Request - Paste from HTML and/or Wiki source, actually got positive feedback from gbarry, but nothing appears to have happened. Feel free to add additional workarounds or other things, if any, within a note that need sorting. David McRitchie
  2. How can I order my notebook stacks in the windows desktop app? I've tried renaming the stacks, thinking that they're alphabetical, but the order didn't change. I've tried dragging, but nothing changes about the order. I searched help but found nothing, only about how to sort notes within a notebook. Can't even find anything about how to sort notebooks within a notebook stack.
  3. Evernote doesn't support sorting of the text within a note (alphabetically) and I think this would be a great feature to have. I have several lists of this and that, and after a while it becomes hard for me to find what I want. I prefer my lists to be alphabetically ordered. I have seen several requests for this feature, but invariably this feature is misunderstood with the sorting of notebooks or notes. It is neither of these things; these features are already present in Evernote. I did raise this with Evernote Support, but they just acknowledged my request and then closed the ticket couple of weeks later. Not sure what the status of my request is, or how to find out. Does anybody know whether this feature is likely to be added, or otherwise, and if not, are there any good workarounds I could try (other than copying and pasting to and from a text editor, which is very time consuming). Thanks Howard
  4. It would be very useful to be able to sort table columns, ascending or descending. Unless it already is a hidden feature within Evernote!
  5. Ordering notes by Name in reverse order ie z-a or 9-1 is a standard feature in most programs. Eg Excel, Word etc. It would help me greatly if Evernote did this. I would like to order my notes in reverse order dates like: 180122 180121 180120 ...
  6. I'm trying to sort all my When tags so that when I enter a tag starting with '!', I get the following sort in the dropdown list: !!Daily !1-Now !2-Next !3-Soon !4-Later !5-Someday !6-Waiting !9-Completed !Recur !z_Annually !z_Monthly !z_Quarterly !z_Weekly You'll see that I used 'z' to get the periodicity tags to the bottom of the sort. Is there a special character that would sort below letters? I.e., a character that I could replace 'z' with and still have my desired sort order?
  7. It would be fantastic to sort by Audio type note and see only audio notes
  8. Currently, folder sort view is managed by a global setting that affects all notebooks. So if you sort one notebook by alpha, then all notebooks are sorted by alpha. I propose making this global setting a checkbox in preferences. The default is this setting is "checked," meaning one global rule for sorting all notebooks (the way things are now). But if you "uncheck" the box, then each folder could have its own sorting parameter. For example, you might sort an inbox folder by date, but you'd sort a folder of favorite recipes by alpha. What happens when you uncheck the box in preferences? All folders would have a default initial sort parameter equal to the one that existed immediately before the unchecking of the box. That is, if you're on the global setting and sorting by alpha, then if you uncheck the box, all folders would have an initial parameter of alpha sort. But then you could subsequently change this in each folder by choosing a new sort parameter (which would then obviously be remembered on a folder specific basis).
  9. I like on the latest widget the option to have several notes displayed but it's annoying that I have no way to control the ordering of those notes. I believe it uses last modified date. It would be really nice if I could specify the ordering to be something more useful to me. At least it could respect the ordering method used within the main app, but it would be even better if I could independently specify the ordering either from within the main apps settings or at creation time for the widget (which would provide the opportunity to have different widgets with different orderings). Thanks.
  10. While using Evernote to create or write a paper, or think through new and complex ideas and strategies, I would like the ability to manually sort notes within a notebook. Say, 32 notes sorted into any order within a any one notebook. Not all thinking is consecutive (linear) but ideas can be built up and ordered over time as the ideas, or concept, or paper, or article, or novel, becomes clearer. Ulysses, which I also use, does this naturally within the product and I find it very powerful.
  11. Just started using Evernote, very happy so far but surprised there is no sort feature? Also pleasantly surprised at the "to-do" right-click menu feature: check all, uncheck all. Suggest adding a sort option -- check-first, uncheck first, and alpha. Overall basic sort feature within notes and, in an ideal world, a more powerful one within tables, would be great.
  12. I would like a feature in notes that lets me flag them as "always on top" in any search in which they should appear. This would allow me to keep certain items on top that I want to work on etc. A check box in the note info menu would be a convenient place to set this.
  13. Hi Guys, I really, really need the possibility to do different kind of sortings in EVERY SINGLE NOTEBOOK! In some notebooks, I create the entries in the way to sort after the title, in some others it's important for me to see the newest entries first. It's awful for me to have the same sorting in all the notebooks. Best, Nicole
  14. So I have read a few different posts that imply it is possible to have different note sort orders by notebook. Example Notebook 1 have the notes within sorted by title in reverse order and Notebook 2 notes sorted by created in regular order and Notebook 3 notes sorted by Updated in reverse order. No matter how many ways I try this it sorts every note in every notebook the same way. Any ideas or help would be great.
  15. Ever since the new iOS update, individual notes cannot be sorted according to due dates (reminders). I used to be able to click on an individual notebook, and view my notes sorted by reminders. Now, there is just a single notebook named Reminders that you can view them by. Am I doing something wrong?
  16. Currently, there is a "hack" for notes that allows you to arrange them in any order you choose, with a super intuitive drag-and-drop. PLEASE make this a standard feature! The 'hack' allows you to take all notes in a notebook (or as many as you so choose), drop them in a reminder, and BAM, the order you want them is is stickied to the top of the notebook and editable at will. This allows the ultimate flexibility, especially for notebooks, because it sometimes people don't want 'INBOX' above 'PROJECTS' and below 'HOME.' Using renaming hacks is not intuitive, and makes thisng difficulty every time you add a new notebook. Drag and drop is super intuitive AND already available in other programs! (Like OneNote and ToDoIst). Please make it happen!
  17. Sometimes I make a list in Evernote. Would like to be able sort it. Maybe highlight it and then click sort, instead of having to cut and paste to another app and bring it back.
  18. Hello, Wouldn't it be great if you could view your notes by the TYPE of clipping they are? Bookmark / Article / etc etc Please can we have more VISUAL WAYS to categorise our notes, too, not just tagging. Surely I am not the only visually organised person here. What else is possible?! Thanks! Petek
  19. I would like the option to sort my notes by last date/time opened. This would especially be useful for cookbooks; those recipes used most often would appear first. Perhaps this is already an option but I have been unable to find it.
  20. Surely others have asked for this before. It is such a desirable feature that I can't understand why it isn't already a part of the program. The user should have the ability to change the sort order of the notes with hotkeys. Let me hit a couple of keys to instantly change the sort order of my notes. Sometimes I want them sorted by name in the normal sequence. Sometimes I want them sorted by the update but in reverse order. I actually don't use Evernote for some of the work I would like it to do simply because it is too slow to change the sort order with the mouse and menus. The ability to make instant sort changes would be a fabulous power to have. Joe
  21. (not about sorting notes, I wonder how to sort notebooks) Simply... How?..... Drag and drop doesn't even really work as they just form into notebook stacks.. or let's put it this way.. how do I sort the stacks.. ? : \ * please there is no need to discuss workarounds like putting books under a stack, and naming them 001 002 003.. this workaround doesn't even make sense what if i ever needed to insert something..?.. * I found this been discussed about but not really a solution.. so try to bring this up again..
  22. I'd like to have a different view style for stacks and notebooks, for example i'd like to see "card view" for recipes and "side list view" for news. Same for sorting, i'd like to sort "by name" recipes and sort "by update" news. Can you add view&sort options for each stacks&notebooks? Thank you
  23. Hi all! Love Evernote! Use it both private as business. Very important for both is the TO DO function! Can't go without it ;-). But...... with all those notes and different TO DO list I lack overview. So who can help me with 2 questions below? 1) How can I make sure my unfinished/unmarked tasks are in the top off the list and the marked are down in one single note? 2) How can I get a total overview of all unfinished/unmarked tasks of ALL notes? So a master view so to speak? This should be the answer according to Evernote but I can't get it to work: list all the notes in your account with unfinished tasks, click inside the search field, select Add search option > Contains, then select 'Incomplete todos' from the list of options. So above does NOT work: who can help me with Q1 and Q2? How can I get a totall overview of ALL outstanding/unmarked/unfinished TO DO items? Thanks!!!!!
  24. I have a scenario and I'm trying to find the best way Evernote can help me. I am preparing for a trial and I plan to put all the trial exhibits in a notebook in Evernote so I can quickly bring them up during trial. (The tagging, searching, and note-taking features in Evernote are valuable for this.) I typically name my notes "YYYY-MM-DD <title>" so I can view them chronologically. But the exhibit numbers (the number by which the court will refer to the documents) are not ordered chronologically. My question is: once I have my exhibits in Evernote arranged chronologically, is there a way I could also search by their given exhibit numbers? For example: 3. 2000-12-31 Email 1. 2001-01-01 Agreement 2. 2001-01-02 Note I'd like to be able to alternately see this list in order of their exhibit numbers and in chronological order. Seems I would need to add a new field for this, but it does not seem this option is available. I've heard someone mention the possibility of editing the "Created Date" but I don't know if or how that's possible. Best I've come up with is to generate a Table of Contents and manually sort it by exhibit number and maintain it separate from the main list, which is an extra layer of ongoing document management I'd like to avoid. Any ideas?
  25. Yesterday my Notebooks displayed in the Left Panel suddenly appeared in non-alpha order. I am using the Evernote software on a ThinkPad, which I have used successfully for over one year and never had this happen before. I have logged out of my account, Quit Evernote from the hidden icon tab, even deleted the software from my computer and re-installed the program, but each time the Notebooks appear in a random order. I do not have this problem on the apps on my iPhone and iPad - the Notebooks are listed in alpha order, even after several syncs. Does anyone know how to restore them in alpha order? Thank you!
