  1. I love to share notebooks, but without a notification that the shared notebook has been updated (either by a new note created in the notebook OR an edit to an existing note), the shared notebooks lose a significant amount of their usefulness and utility. I've seen this suggestion posted a couple of times in this forum, and I hope that maybe this post will gain some traction unlike the others. I've seen at least one suggestion for a 3rd party workaround, but this really should be a native feature of the software, especially for paid users such as myself. Strangely, one of the features that I like about Evernote is how streamlined it is, and the lack of superfluous notifications like many apps bombard you with. However, in this one instance, notifications would be very welcome! If my teammate makes an edit to a notebook, a popup in Windows or my phone would let me know to review their edits. I was an early adopter of Evernote, and this is really my biggest complaint about the software. Please correct this glaring omission! Thanks!
  2. Hello Guys, I recently started using evernote for work, I have a personal premium account and I didn't want to download all my personal stuff to my work pc, I don't want to use evernote web because it doesn't has the useful features the PC version do, so I tough I will create a new basic account under work email, create notebooks in my personal account and share it, so I have the benefit of large upload limit from my personal account and not sharing everything in the work account easy right? I did that and I started to have some issues, I hope you can help me with I cannot tag in the shared account, not even with already used tags coming from the personal account in evernote PC app, but ironically if I clip a note from my email work using the Outlook EV clipper and tag the note while clipping it works ! I have few shared notebooks, when I move notes from one to the next the tags [shared from personal] disappear !! If a tag is removed from a note [like what happened when I moved notes from shared notebooks to another shared notebooks], so what do I do, I tag it in the premium account again but for some reason the does not show in the shared note ?!! This is the most annoying one, above issues I can work around by tagging and moving notes in the web apps but I couldn't figure what to do about this ? Is there a better way or a work around these limitations ? Thanks for your comments and help
  3. Hi, I have created a notebook that I have shared with my wife. I have created some notes, and applied some tags. My wife is able to se the tags on the individuel notes. However the tags does not figure in her list of tags, so we can't seem to figure out how she can use tags for filtering the content of the notebook. From what I have googled, it seems that only the notebook owner is able to create tags for usage in the shared notebook. If so, I am fine with that. But there have to be some way for collaborators to acutally make use of the tags? Does it requre med to have a business or premium subscription perhaps? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Hi, Today I finally installed EN5 to see whether the initial issues I read about in this forum have been resolved. On EN4 I can nest tags created by someone else, in a notebook they shared with me, into a main category (called, for example, NOT MY TAGS). Doing so keeps their tags out of my visual field, and they don't disrupt my workflow with my own tag hierarchy. On EN5, however, I could only nest the tags I'd created myself, not the ones from a shared notebook. Those tags appeared flat, on a hierarchical level identical to my personal tags' main level. Every single one of them was followed by the email address of the notebook owner. I like knowing whose tag it is (especially when it's something long and too detailed like "bread_suppliers_benjamin_franklin_stone_bakery_2013_may"), but for me the final effect of not being able to nest them is that of EVC: Extreme Visual Clutter. I also couldn't find a way to make those tags disappear by selecting only my own notebooks. For me, having other people's tags in my face all the time is a dealbreaker. Someone shares a notebook with me, and their tags are more important than my own? Perhaps pertinent distinctions: Was running EN5 on an XP computer; EN4 on Windows 7; Was running EN5 on a free account; EN4 on a premium. Does this happen with premium accounts on Windows 7? If so, is it by design or is it a bug? Thanks, Lena
  5. I would like to hide tags associated with shared notebooks. They are distracting me in my daily Evernote experience. How do I do so?
  6. Does everyone sharing a notebook see a reminder set on a note in that notebook? Does it make any difference if the reminder is set by the notebook's owner or one of the other people sharing the notebook?
  7. How exactly do tags work in shared notebooks? I am working collaboratively quite often with new users (Who I often make download and use Evernote). Suffice to say I am ussually doing most of the organisation of notes for them, to have some kind of order... The setting are users can: view and edit. I know I can tag notebooks any way I like... 1) Do they see/have access to my tags? Or Am I only one who can see the things I tag? 2) Can they add tags on a shared notebook? And if they add tags on my shared notebooks... Is it only for their eyes? Or do we all have the shared tags they decide to add? Thanks. Need to know this before I give advice for them on using tags to help me organise things systematically...
  8. if I create a notebook and share it with another person, how do notes added to that notebook count toward the monthly data limit? In other words, as notes are added via the Web Clipper or import folders or Scannable or EN's built-in Android scanner, does the data count toward the monthly data limit of only the user who is adding the data or toward monthly data limits of everyone sharing that notebook? are notes in shared notebooks editable by everyone the notebook has been shared with?
  9. Hi, I am experiencing a reproducible bug when moving notes from one shared notebook to another: User A has notebook1 and notebook2 shared with user B User A creates a note in notebook1, syncs and this note appears in notebook1 of user B after he syncs User A moves this note from notebook1 to notebook2 and syncs User B syncs. Now the moved note will shortly appear in his notebook2, the number of notes is incremented by 1, but then (less than a second later) the note disppears and the number of notes is decremented by 1. I have observed this bug so far only in the windows client (6.4.2.3788 and 6.5.1.3988 - prerelease). It does not show online or in the android client. Do not know about iOs/macOS client.
  10. So, I've been scouring the Evernote forums and I haven't found a solution yet. My family uses Evernote for nearly everything. We use it for our homeschooling as well. I created the notebook for our homeschool files and I have created a comprehensive tag system for our family to use. The issue is that while we import the tags on the already labeled folders, my children and husband are not able to utilize my tags. They import looking like this: !Instructions (my username). When another person goes to tag a file in that shared notebook, they are not given a drop down menu of even my tags which have already imported. Is there a method to sharing tags? If the children try to tag something, for example, !Instructions, it will go ahead and create a new tag in their Evernote. This leaves them with !Instructions (my username) and !Instructions. Everything becomes a bit of a mess at that point. Is there a reason they can't use my tags without having to drag each note into the tags they want to utilize? Is there a better system for tagging? While I don't mind having to tag notes with tags they haven't imported yet, I feel like there should be a better system for people who want to use Evernote as a central hub for all their work and such.
  11. I am in a course at a university and would like to share a notebook with just my classmates. I cannot see how to do that in a safe manner. I do not want it findable by outside people: How safe is a public link? Are public notebooks findable by people who do not have the specific link to the notebooks. I do NOT want to make people join Evernote. I want classmates to be able to view it just on the web without having to be logged in. That appears to work fine with the "public" link. I invited my pen name to join the notebook to test it out. NOT going to use that method!! (Evernote sent an email that had NO link to the notebook. Only a "Reply in Evernote" which opened WorkChat on the web. (I HATE WorkChat! Largely because Evernote has tried to force it on us!) Thanks for any clarity you can provide!
  12. Every new notebook is created as View Only, even for the user that created it. Every time someone creates a new notebook the admin of the account must be notified to give the user Edit and Invite permission. Is there a way to override this behavior? Thanks.
  13. Hi guys, I am using Evernote since a few years, and have thousands of notes in it. Today I decided to remove some of the shared notebooks (shared with me by 3rd persons), because they were not anymore relevant. However, now I am stuck with a huge bunch of unused tags that these notebooks contained, and the problem is that I cannot remove them! When I right-click on these tags with my mouse, the option "delete" is not even highlighted, the only thing it allows me to do is add the tag to the shortcuts. Is there any solution to it? I'm using Evernote for Windows, v 5.6. (premium account) Thanks for your help in advance! Mirra
  14. I've been using Evernote fine this whole year and for most parts, it works great when you use it primarily between yourself. Recently, I've started using the Notebook Sharing feature of Evernote towards the tail end of last year and it worked without a hitch till recently. Now, I don't know if it is because of the new version that was installed but a couple of problems started surfacing. While they were minor ones, they've been enough of an annoyance that i'm starting to reconsider it's usage. 1) The activity stream no longer updates me when there is a change made by people whom the notebook is being shared. (Feature works fine for the other user who is on a Windows) 2) Activity stream still shows my old email on the activity during the times it does decide to refresh itself 3) There's been times when a seemingly random number is used instead of my Profile name or email. The number has been consistent and I am assuming this is a number that is linked to my account. 4) The activity streams are not synced between my desktop and laptop. Both show different notification despite being the same updated versions. The few times I have had to use Shared Notebooks earlier last year, it's worked out without any problems and it feels like it is after the updated version, problems started surfacing. Without notifications, it feels pointless to use the Shared Notebook feature. Google Drive's system seems to be a better alternative with real time updates on the edits. The Work Chat function is a joke since it does not even sync up with other people on whom i am sharing the notebook with. The previous method of sharing a notebook worked way better. This is one part of my disappointment with Evernote of late. The other part will be continued on another thread to keep this post to the point. Anyone else encountering such problems with Evernote?
  15. Hi, Want to create a course booklet as a 'notebook' with lecture slides etc for the cancer charity I work for. Can I create a notebook that people can take notes on without it affecting the original shared notebook but rather just have notes on their own personal version? Could this perhaps be done by saving the workbook by each individual? Thanks in advance for your help Rafi
  16. Frequently I used the search function that would limit results to just my notebooks and content, up through the end of version 5 of the windows version of Evernote. With version 6, that ability to differentiate between my content and my content PLUS shared content I am not interested in at the moment was removed, according to Evernote technical support, in response to a ticket I opened regarding this specific issue. +1 for restoring this function! Thank you, southernforge
  17. How can I get notifications that a team member has edited a note? This is critical!!!! Please help
  18. Evernote works great for notes that I create, all showing under the "notes" section which displays all notes. However, notebooks created by others and shared with me (with full permissions) will display under their specific notebooks, however they DO NOT display under the all encompassing "notes" section. It is important to note that everything works perfectly (all notes display under generic "notes" section) in Windows application version 5.9.6.9494 however it DOES NOT work correctly under Android application version 7.7 nor does it display properly in the web based interface.
  19. I would love to know why this is happening. Please don't say, "you can't add tags that don't already exist in a shared notebook, even if you created that notebook." Anyone?
  20. Hello, just to report, again, the inconsistencies on the "shared notebooks" concept that even in the different platforms of Evernote do different things. - A note in a shared notebook, we can't move to another notebook. In the Web Beta, the folder/notebook option is locked in gray. In the Web version, only display shared notebooks... not ALL the notebooks. BUT, in the android version, we can change a note from a shared notebook to a private one without problem. Well, I hope all this inconsistencies will be resolved soon, cause it's frustrating. Thanks Carlos from Argentina
  21. My manager has shared a notebook with me using the Work Chat function. I can access the note when I click on her message in the Work Chat section of Evernote. However, I was under the impression that once I opened it, it would then appear as one of my Notebooks, and this doesn't seem to be happening. I'm relatively new to Evernote, so not sure if there is an extra step I'm missing or if I just don't understand how it works. I've tried searching for the answer, but mostly just see the steps needed to actually share the workbook vs. what needs to be done by the recipient. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
  22. I was wondering if there are any plans to come up with a feature that would track changes made to shared notes in Evernote Premium. I created a template in Evernote that tracks the progress of development in a number of different projects. Each of these projects has at least 40 different associated phases in it and each phase has a page in the project notebook. Prior to upgrading to Premium I was the only person who made changes to the notes although they could be viewed by a team of other people. I found that it had become a rather large task to keep all the notes for all projects updated all the time and was excited to see that I could allow the project managers to modify my notes on their own. The one problem I have run into is that there is no convenient way for me to see what changes they have made without copying and pasting the two most recent versions of the Note into Word and trying to pick out the changes that way. My team and I use these notes all the time and I have downloaded the app on all their devices (iPad, iPhones) as well as on my android device and my personal Macbook. One way to keep track of these changes could be to link the template to a Word document and then have that .doc track the changes, however this isn't really feasible as it is difficult to open and manipulate Office docs from the ipads and iphones. I am wondering if there are any plans to add a feature that would track any changes made by shared users in the same way changes are tracked in Word. I was thinking maybe I (the owner) would see the changes in a different font color or something. Is this something that would be possible to program in to the existing system framework? At the very least is there any way I could change the default font color for the different users in their own account? I was asked to post my question here so I thought I would give it a try. Thank you
  23. I have evernote premium. This allows ne 250 shared notebooks. I work at 4 different locations as well as travel a lot. So I have access o desktops at the forur locations, and a laptop for traveling. Between dropbox and evernote I just share the account and can travel very lightly indeed. But now I have reached capacity on the shared notebooks. Even if I upgrade to business I still get 250 notebooks per user. Do I need to split myself to get more notebooks. Also that quadruples cost as I would have to pay £8 per month x 2 for the inconvenience of having 2 log ins opposed to £4.00 per month for Premium. Is there any way to increase the shared notebooks within premium? (I cannot be the only person who has maxed out capacity!!! Thoughts? ideas? Evernote?
  24. How can I use tags in shared notebook. Note was input into notebook that is shared with all the tags in the note. Go to account with which the notebook was shared. Can not use the tags in the account the notebook was shared to. Get the error message: Only tags that are already in this notebook can be added to this note. Right below this message is a note with ALL the tags in it. How can this be fixed? Rick
  25. Can anybody enlighten me as to whether shared notebooks increase my monthly data usage if accessed by those who are shared on the notebook? I imagine that if those accessing shared notebook add/edit then those changes would use up some of my monthly usage. I'm trying to work out how I share thing. many thanks!
