  1. I have been using tags for a long time with Evernote. But when I try searching for a note, I get so many results that I have to wade through, and most of them don't even seem related to my search inquiry. Is there a way to get results closer to what I am looking for? I have tried using two or three keywords only, but still get too many notes not even close to what I am looking for.
  2. When doing a search for the word "will", on the windows client, all notes are returned as the search result, when in fact they don't have the word. This doesn't happen in the web app. Searching for variations like "wil" or "willl" produces good results. "Will" this be fixed ?
  3. I am using Evernote 5 on a Windows PC and can't seem to figure out how to search for text in the title only. Example: I have a number of notes with titles that start with my husband's name...and his name is David. So the title might be something like "David: Strengths Finder Results" or "David: email thread with Sandy on 4/13/13" I do NOT want to run a search for all my notes containing his name (I have TONS!); only the title. So I want to search for "David:" in the title only. Can I do that? If so, please tell me how! Thanks! Sharon Hillam
  4. I use well above 3.000 notes for academic purposes. Unfortunately, if you have a lot of notes, the standard search feature performs really bad (I am aware of th eadvanced search capabilities). At the moment it looks like it only checks notes for the search word and ranks them according to the last edit. This is not sufficient. When I create a note, for instance, I often link other notes to that note. When I search for the title of the note, I get all those notes where I added the link first, because that was the last edit. It would be great if there were better ranking functionalities like giving more weight to linked notes or keywords that appear in the title. Additionally I would highly appreciate if a search for "topics" would also come up with a note titled "topic". From a technical side: At the moment it looks like a simple boolean retrieval algorithm is implemented with a ranking by "last edit" It would be great if the title would receive a higher weight. Documents with higher term frequencies should also receive a higher weight. The same accounts for linked notes. One could make use of the hyperlink strucuter using "Hypertext-Induced Topic Search" or something similar to "PageRank". Search words are not lemmatized. If I have a note titled "topic" there is no way to find it using search word "topics". Some kind of context search functionality like "Latent Semantic Indexing" might also be useful .
  5. Hi Evernote community, Without needing to search the contents of attached PDFs or Docs, how robust is the search function in and across notes collections? For example, can a note be annotated with a particular hashtag so a general search across a complete library could return links to all notes containing such a hashtag, or is there another, more expedient way to find notes containing specific tags or combination of tags? Thanks for helping a new comer. -George
  6. Hi, If I have a text like this "12345" I can not find it by query like 234 or 345 etc. I can find it only with the first letters/digits: 1 or 12, or 123 etc. Is it kind of disadvantage of the program or a special feature?
  7. I had been forced to migrate from Palm PIMs e.g. Tungsten to BlackBerry PIMs e.g. Storm to Microsoft Outlook Notes to text files then finally arriving at Evernote using the Import Folders feature. There was no easy way to export from MS Notes into MS OneNote despite them being from the same company. During the migration from Outlook Notes to text files, unicode / UTF-8 characters had been reduced to question marks e.g. "???". I hope to search out these question marks in Evernote so I can manually copy and paste the characters written in other languages. Currently Evernote on Windows Desktop does not respond to searches for question marks.
  8. Hi I am new in this forum and could not find a better place for this troubleshooting question. I run Evernote since many years mainly on Mac (but certain period also on PC) and very happy with it. My question is around searching using OS X Spotlight which usually find text in Evernotes notes headline as well as text. If the note also contain a photo with text and the text is successfully identified with Evernotes excellent central OCR software also the text found in the photos have so far been available for Mac OS X Spotlight. I just upgraded from ver 5.x to ver 6.0.5 for Evernote and I run on OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. Under ver 5 I could find in Spotlight words identified with OCR but after upgrade I cannot find them with Spotlight. I can find other text in Evernote from Spotlight however. A further clue is that OCR identified text can be searched within Evernote without problem. I have tried a new note with OCR-identification and also some older notes and both show the same problem. I have difficulty to believe that in ver 6 the interaction between Evernote and Mac Sportlight should be limited and that you many need some premium license to activate this, but if so let me know. I tend to believe it is something related to interaction between Mac OS X and Evernote. Have tried some trick related to recover Mac OS X Spoltlight indexing but did not help. I have also exactly the same problem on an newly installed laptop with OX X 10.10.1 Yousemite. Appreciate some help Jan Peter
  9. So i just got Evernote Premium. I also created a few notes and attached a pdf in there. Now from what i understand i should be able to search in either the windows app or android app and it searches through all notes and pdf files in the notes. When i search on either windows app or android it brings up the pdf where the word is in. However on the windows app i have to open the pdf and scroll through every page until i find one that has the word highlighted. I thought when you search it searches in the pdf and only brings up the pages in that pdf where the word is on, not that i have to open the pdf and scroll through all the pages and look for a highlighted word. Also on the android app it doesnt even highlight the word in the pdf, it finds the pdf in the searches but when i open it theres nothing highlighted.

  11. searched online for this but could not find any discussion or resource addressing this point where if i enter a hashtag in the evernote search box before a word no results show up even though i have #dog , for example, in one of my notes. hashmarks seem to be ignored completely in searches.
  12. Easiest if I explain the scenario: Lauch the Evernote Mac client. Define a tag. Let's call it "mytag". Assign the tag to 10 notes. Sync. Look at each note to confirm that the tag is assigned. Yep! Look at the tag to confirm that it's count is "10". Yep! View all notes. Search for the tag (tag:mytag). Evernote finds some of the notes with the tag, but not all of them. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Tech support suggested I delete the Evernote client and reinstall it from the website, not the Mac App Store. I have done that, and there is no change in behavior. If this is indeed a problem and not user error, it seems pretty serious.
  13. 1.Suggest about searching in evernote : should be more searching algorithms or method to access more accurate of note . I have more than 2000 note now and i uses tag to categorize them but i want more effective searching algorthms eg. Search only topic or in file content etc. 2.Suggest about bookmark and favorite : When i read pdf file in ipad and i want to do some work with other files, i have to close pdf file. It was not easy to go back to pdf file i have had reed before. Should have bookmark or favorite in every platform 3.Problem when uploading file size more than 10 mb on ipad evernote, it will make a file to multiple copies and use up more storage, i try to correct and send message to evernote team but they cannot help ,the said that uninstall and reintall --> problem persists... 14. Hello, As my evernote collections have quickly grown I find myself struggling to find notes that I've created. One feature that I really like in a terrific program called Papers (http://www.mekentosj.com/) is the ability to search by keywords, authors, etc. Basically the interface for evernote would be the same except that the search bar would have a small drop down triangle ( kin of like safari) that would allow to refine the search criteria. I can't understate how useful this feature is, especially as your digital collection grows and grows and grows. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate this feature. If you could get that up and going by next week that would be great :-).
  15. Saved searches on the Mac do not have the following features which are available on the Windows client: A dialog for creating the search (on Mac you have to enter the search syntax directly) A way to edit the rules for a saved search or to even see what the rules are It would be nice if the Mac client had equivalent functionality to the Windows client. No one likes to think they are a second class citizen.
  16. Is it possible to search for notes within a certain distance of my current location? Ideally I"d like to have a saved search that said "within:2km" from a certain notebook. I've looked through the search documentation, but have only found the latitude: longitude: criteria options.
  17. I would love to get the capability of printing the titles of notes found in a search, or all notes in a notebook. I need it to use Evernote as a Next Actions manager (GTD). Is there any trick to do this? Would that be a wellcome new feature?.
  18. I use Evernote to disseminate I.T. support info to clients by adding notes to a notebook that they subscribe to. It is frustrating that clients have to select whether they want to search notebooks in their own account (the Account tab) OR notebooks to which they have subscribed (the Shared tab). There currently doesn't appear to be any way of searching across ALL notebooks they have access to. They have to do at least 2 searches to include all available data. The 'All Notebooks' item is a misnomer - in the sense that it doesn't include Shared Notebooks. Anyone know of a workaround?
