  1. Good Morning, I absolutely love taking notes with Evernote in class! Currently how I use it right now, is I typically take a picture of the handouts given in the beginning of class, start recording and than type in the notes as class moves forward. I would love to have the opportunity to mark highlights for important sections during the lecture, without interrupting the overall recording, and easily find that location later. Another feature that would be very helpful would be to put a marking or a link in the middle of the notes that I am typing to the location of the highlight that I make at that time. Right now I am using Cohdoo Highlight app https://cohdoo.com/highlight.php. I know this seems to be a lot to ask, but as a Speech Language Pathology student that uses mainly only Evernote for school purposes, and depends on the recordings from lectures, these features would really change the game for me! Thank you,
  2. This is my first post, hope I've posted in the correct section. So I've recently gotten into Evernote and its power I am a student. I would like to use Evernote to organise both school and personal stuff. For school, I have subjects like biology, physics, math, etc. Then I do some personal projects like programming and playing with my Raspberry PI, stuff like that. I want to use Evernote to organise them. I did it with a notebook for school and personal then using tags to organise, but I want to have a consistent layout in my task management app, which is Wunderlist, I use it extensively already and most of my tasks are on there. However it only allows me to organise tasks into folders which contains lists and I am unable to replicate my setup in evernote. I would like to be able to find individual projects. (I have many History projects and would like to go to them easily..) I also need a method to archive projects or at least organise the notes by year Can someone give me a suggestion? Thanks
  3. Hi This is my first post, i hope i didn't post in the wrong forum, if so my apologizes ! I'm new in evernote, only using it for a couple of week, and i have a question: How to organize my notes efficiently ? I'm a student and i like to see my notes organized perfectly. I'm listening to a lot of lectures, by different lecturers, dealing with different topics. And i don't know how to organize them ? At first i wanted to create one stack for school and one for personnal and then add a lectures notebook in my School stacks but then i don't know how to rename each lectures with different topics/lectures in different date. For example i have these type of notes: Semester 1: Lecturer 1: Computer - Lecture 1: topic 1 - Lecture 2: topic 2 - Lecture 3: topic 3 Lecturer 2: - Lecture 1: topic 1 - Lecture 2: topic 2 ... - Lecture 30: topic 30 etc.. Semester 2: Lecturer 1: Computer - Lecture 1: topic 1 - Lecture 2: topic 2 - Lecture 3: topic 3 Lecturer 2: - Lecture 1: topic 1 - Lecture 2: topic 2 ... - Lecture 30: topic 30 What would be the best ? One lecture stack with all lecture notes named like this: "Lecturer 1 - Semester 1 - Topic" Or make a Lecture stack with One notebook for each lecturer ? I'm afraid if i end up with 1000 of notebooks in the future.. Thanks for you advice and for your answers.
  4. I wonder, does anyone know how it might be to use work chat to give comments and discuss with students in their shared notebooks? I am a premium user and have shared class notebooks with my classes, then shared another with editing rights with each of my students, and I have wanted to be able to just hit "like" or say "great, go ahead" or more, when I see they have uploaded something or are on their way with an assignment. Is Work chat my answer? I am testing it out with a few already but am not sure how it works, really. Anyone else tried this? I also wonder WHY Evernote does not automatically find the person I am sharing the note with as I click 'share' and choose email or, as of lately, 'chat' - wouldn't that person be the obvious default choice? Instead, unless the person's address is in my contact list (and honestly I'm not sure which one of my contact databases it is the program accesses...I am on my work computer, but it seems to be my google contacts) - I have to type in the address from memory or look it up. Just slightly annoying as is seems a simple thing to offer - maybe it isn't.
  5. Hi, I am big into taking digital notes. I have traditionally used Microsoft Onenote along with Dropbox to annotate and sync all my school notes. I am wanting to make the move to Evernote for Windows due to frustration over various technical bugs, but I am finding that it lacks what I need it to do. I am in a professional post-grad program and currently I download all the the different class notes and import them to Onenote. These notes are either Word, powerpoint, or PDF format. Onenote automatically converts the file into a pdf format and places the whole file in view on the note (not a link). From that point I am able to draw over them to annotate, highlight sections, or add text. I would like to be able to do this with Evernote/Skitch. Is there a way to easily be able to import different files, have their contents display in evernote (without converting to a picture format), then be able to annotate over / on them and save back to evernote??? I would also like to be able to add audio notes that correlate to different sections of my notes. For example a professor might be going into a lot of detail over a powerpoint slide and I would just like to have audio that links to that slide. Please help
  6. As I find there is no sure method of internet content filtering on iOS, I use the iOS system restrictions setting to deny access to Safari, YouTube, and Installing Apps for our students. This effectively prevents them from accessing undesirable internet content on their iOS devices. However, I find that Evernote allows students to circumvent this restriction. By typing the URL of a website into a note, letting it format into a hyperlink, holding on the hyperlink, and then selecting "open", students can gain unrestricted internet access through Evernote's built-in web browser. (In fact, I registered for this forum and made this post using the same method on one of our locked iOS devices.) Could the Evernote developers please close this basckdoor functionality? All of us here really love using Evernote, and we'd hate to stop using it because of as small flaw. Many thanks.
  7. How can I minimize the amount of storage Evernote uses on my iPhone? I'm half way through my first semester of nursing school and EN is eating up my iPhone's storage. I use the iOS app to record my lectures and use the desktop app for notes and keeping track of documents. Each course is assigned it's own notebook. Would online/offline notebooks help? I'm not clear on how they would work for being able to access my content when I need it where I need it.
  8. Hi, I am an art teacher using Evernote with about 300 pupils in secondary education to document their process. One problem that crops up regularly is that images that students paste from the web as inspiration show up in my account as blue question marks. I have opened and shared all the notebooks from a premium account on a mac and the children use a variety of different home computers and mobile devices, mostly finding their own way to use Evernote. Is there any general advice that I can give my pupils so that I can see the images that they post in their shared notebooks?
  9. Good day everyone: Are any of you going to nursing school? If yes, would you mind sharing how you are using Evernote for organizing lectures, clinicals, etc.? Thank you.
  10. Hi, I am an art teacher using Evernote with about 300 pupils in secondary education to document their process. I have opened and shared all the notebooks from a premium account on a mac and the children use a variety of different home computers and mobile devices, mostly finding their own way to use Evernote. A couple of students have had a problem in that notes that they add to the shared notebook do not show up in my account. These notes show up on their mobile devices with a green arrow in the top right corner, which I interpret as them not yet having been uploaded from the device. We have made sure that the account has 'synced', both from the device and on my macbook, but there is no change. Any ideas?
  11. The Chicago tribune posted an articleFine-tune college search online that features ways to use Evernote to improve the college search.
  12. Hello, I use Evernote for a wide range of daily tasks. One of them is taking notes for my college classes. I find myself summarizing chapters in text books that I can use for references later on. One feature I think would be worthwhile would be having the ability to highlight a word, righ click, and have an option to "define." I think this would be a great tool for students who are taking notes in class, but might not know the meaning a certain words they are taking notes on. Thanks! Cole
  13. Hi! I just started using Evernote on my iPad in school and noticed two shortcomings that should be relatively easy to fix. The first one is drawing inside of Evernote. So I was i chemistry class taking notes, when the teacher drew some models on the whiteboard. I wanted to draw these simple models in Evernote with my finger, in case I need to know them later. I found no easy way to do this. First I switched over to Skitch and drew the model, then I exported it into Evernote, but once there I found no easy way of inserting it in the note I was working on. I eventually solved it by going back into Skitch and exporting the drawings to my camera roll, then importing them to my note from there. Not a very good solution. It takes way too much time and you risk to miss writing down important stuff. I would like to see a button or something that you can tap on, they you get a drawing board where you can draw whatever you want, which will then be inserted at the cursor. It should also be possible to move, cut, and paste your drawing inside of Evernote. The second one is inserting special characters So after chemistry I went to physics. There I needed to insert characters for delta and density, as well as some superscript numbers. I found no way to do that within Evernote. I ended up waiting until I got home, and then I launched Evernote on my Mac, and had to go through all my notes and insert these characters. Again, this takes time. Time that you need to study. The simple solution would be to add a button that brings upp a popup menu, where you can choose from a bunch of characters (possibly sorted in categories), and the ability to favorite characters for easy access would be very much appreciated. I hope this is something the Evernote team would like to improve on, because Evernote is just awesome in school other than this. I have my notes both in my iPad, my phone and my computer, so even if I forget my iPad at home I can read my notes on my (Android) phone.
  14. Hi everyone! On my blog this morning, I wrote a post about my experience on how I taught my homeschooled 10-year old how to use Evernote for his research assignment. I just have to say how awesome this experience was for both me, my wife, and naturally my son! I am not only so proud of my son, but this post really drills home Evernote's vast potential, ease of use, and what we, as adults, can learn from this marvelous experience. Have you taught your children how to use Evernote? I'm very anxious to hear if anyone has ever done this or how you feel about teaching homeschooled children how to leverage Evernote in this manner. Thanks!! http://www.degconsulting.net/2013/05/evernote-kids-education.html
  15. This may be an obvious question but I am wondering how I would do something like this: I give a quiz - I grade/correct the quiz - I scan them as a class. But then I would like to call up all the graded papers for John Doe. How can I have the students identify themselves to make this happen? I hope this makes sense. Thanks for the help.
  16. I love Evernote, but it should include a citation generator, like the ones on easybib, knightcite, etc. It would be helpful to people who have it already, it would encourage students to use it, and it would fight plagiarism all at once!
  17. Hey Evernote Community! I've recently started graduate school and got into using Evernote to help with my studies and research. I'm looking for a way to link to specific points within a note (anchor links) or perhaps within an attached pdf file. Perhaps I'll explain in a little more detail what I'm trying to do, and if anyone knows if or how it's possible, that would be great. Primarily I use Evernote to compile reading notes on journal articles or book chapters. Often in the notes I will refer to specific points of the text, or to related ideas in other articles. For example, I might write something like: On page 8, Torgovnick argues that blahblahblah, a position not dissimilar from the one Kuper takes blahblahblah. I'm looking for (wishing there is) a way to make "on page 8" and "Kuper takes" links to the parts of those texts I'm referencing (either PDFs attached to the note, or at the very least, text copied and pasted to the bottom of the note). If in anyone has any leads for me, I would really appreciate it. If this isn't possible, let this be my humble request of the Evernote team. Believe me, grad students world over would use evernote if you supported this feature. Thanks. JTW
  18. I'm a huge Evernote user and love it for keeping track of details, records, information, etc. But I want to get the most out of it as a room mom this year...I'm my son's second grade room mom. I'd love to share ideas with any of you who are room moms or otherwise organizing activities with Evernote. Thanks! Leslie Godwin
  19. I have just started using Evernote for taking notes for school. But wanted to know if there was a way that I could create pictures for like formulas or digrams? And any way to format bullet points and indentation/spacing better? Thanks.
