  1. If I delete notes that I've added to someone else's shared folder, do they go in my trash or the other persons? Trying to recover some content. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi folks - just scared myself to death and am wondering whether this was just a Senior moment or was really a serious mess-up on my part.. Any views or experience on what would happen if you click a large backup ENEX file while Evernote is running? For reasons to do with previous tests and fixes I have an old ENEX file on my desktop. It's a backup of my default notebook from weeks ago. I also have a couple of 'template' ENEXes (as discussed in other threads) for a diary note and other things. They all have the standard green/ elephant icon. In total I have about 30 icons showing for various documents and folders - I'm not a tidy worker. This morning I wanted a new diary note and absent-mindedly clicked the icon, and waited... and waited... and then realised I clicked the wrong icon: I'd hit the default notebook ENEX, not the diary note. Evernote had locked up, and I had a horrible feeling that it might be about to replace my current Default notebook (22,060 notes) with a version from a few weeks ago with a few hundred fewer notes and lots fewer edits. So I killed my wifi connection and tried to close the Evernote window. Windows 10 told me Evernote wasn't responding, and I took the option to close it anyway. Restarted the app (and the wifi) and everything seems to be OK - but did I come close to disaster, or was I just overreacting? Evernote may have been about to come up with the usual 'where do you want to restore these items to?' dialogue and -apart from tying up system resources- I would have done nothing worse than sidetrack myself for a while. On the other hand... I'll test it out on another account when I have time, but until then any ENEX files I'm not actively using are in a folder where I can't accidentally click them! Moral: Don't keep backup ENEX files anywhere they might get clicked accidentally. And drink more coffee in a morning...
  3. Hello, I recently reactivated my account and found that all of my notes are gone. I've looked on the website, the Mac app, and the iPhone app. There is not even anything in my trash bin. It looks as if I just created a new account, except my profile says it is my account from 2014. Is there any way to recover these old notes or is there a way to talk with anybody directly in Evernote to get my files back? Thanks.
  4. thankfully this is a hypothetical quesiton if i delete a note from a notebook, then delete it from the trash, then buy evernote premium afterwards, can you recover that note ? thanks
  5. Hi, My computer crashed recently and I am trying to recover my local evernote notebooks. I have access to my old hard drive but I can't seem to find the evernote local notebook files. Could anyone please indicate what would be the default path and extension for local notebooks in Windows? Thanks.
  6. Dear Evernote, I like your app, and using it extensively and was about to become premium. so far I was using Penultimate only locally on my iPad. Last week I had to make a backup restore to my iPad and all of my notes in penultimate went blank. I see the circle of notebooks, even all the notes, however with a bank front page and not able to open any of them. I have not sync them into evernote yet, as I just wanted to become a premium member. I tried all potential solutions, several backup restore of my iPad in various ways. I read the before iPad 8.3 it was possible to access the data related to an app. I see on my iPad the 140 MB of documents and data, however it is not working in the app. Please help!
  7. Hello, I'm a long time EN user but in no way an expert particularly when it comes to transferring EN files/notes. I'm in a real pickle and would greatly appreciate any help or wisdom anyone might lend me. Here is my situation: I got a new Win8 computer...installed EN, and synced. FORGOT that I had one local notebook of critical information (yeah, I know), so I went and uninstalled EN from the old Win8 machine (oops, I know). Now I have all my synced notes but of course none of the local notes on my new computer, and I am in a quandary as to the best way to get them back since EN was uninstalled from the old machine. I have my EN data in the following ways: I have a full .enex file of the entire OLD note database (1 month old, all local and synced notes), which is readily accessible on a flash drive. Should this be my first option? I'm pretty sure that have a backup of all my data files from the OLD machine, using Windows File History (also 1 month old, same backup time). But I need to get the old computer back in a day or so and hook up my external drive to verify that the evernote files are there (ebx, I think?). If yes, then what? I also have a local subdirectory that has pdf's of 90%+ of my local notes (scansnap profile dumps them there when scanned and also puts into EN).What are my best options to recover my local notebook and maintain current synced notes and notebooks? If anyone could provide a step-wise sequence or recommend what you would do to recover under this scenario, I would be ever so grateful!! Of course none of you would uninstall EN before getting all local notes transferred in the first place Thank you for any help or recommendations you might provide!! Kind Regard
  8. I use Evernote on both my iPhone and my Macbook and have, over the past few months, depended on Evernote for lists, names, and important things to remember (as I imagine almost everyone else who uses it does). Last night, in an effort to "clean up" my Evernote, I deleted the "Conflicting Changes" folder, not thinking that it would have anything of importance in it. This morning when I was searching for my most important note, I couldn't find it anywhere - in the trash or in any of my notebooks. Is there any way to recover this note?
  9. Hello, everyone! I hope you all are benefiting from Evernote as much as I have been. But perhaps someone could help me with a problem I ran into. My tablet (a Galaxy Tab GT-P1000L) crashed and restarted itself when I was moving Evernote folder from my tablet internal memory to an external expansion card. Once my tablet was on again, I updated Evernote, and found out that most of my data was lost (I'm assuming not because of the update, but because my tablet crashed when moving the files). Fortunately I have most of it backed up, except for two months of information (why I wasn't able to backup two months of notes? that's another story). Looking through the Evernote folder I found a couple of files with .db and .enml extensions that may have what I want. At least when opening the .db file with Notepad (in my laptop) I can see among many unrecognizable characters some fragments of my last notes. This gives me some hope. So you know, my phone didn't open these files. After the update it showed no data, zero notes, instead it started to download the notes from the cloud. I know .enml are Android files so Evernote desktop won't open them either (I tried), Evernote desktop only imports .enex files and Microsoft OneNote notes. So my question: Is there any way I can import or open those files again? If not, is there another software that would let me at least read them? I tried several keywords in the forum and read several posts, but no luck. Some talk about a .enml editor (enml-editor.ping13.net), but you can't edit those files with that editor unless they are accessed by Evernote (which that's the problem I have), and someone even suggested changing the file extensions from .enml to .enex, that won't do it. I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions. Have a good day! JRosas
  10. Hi - I recently change iPads and forgot to update my Penultimate account. I went on a trip and made a TON of notes on the plane yesterday offline. Today when I went to sync it - goneski. All my notes - gone. Any chance to get them back? The funny thing is before I got everything reconnected - i saw them and sent them in a pdf to be sure I save it but the damn app recreated the one notebook I could not see on the plane yesterday so now it looks like I did nothing. Any ideas?
  11. First post, apologies if I miss some etiquette here. I do understand that this topic has been heavily discussed and I tried to find the answer I was looking for in the locations directed by the Evernote support pages. I'm posting after not finding that information. Recently, with the forced password reset, my mobile device stopped syncing. This makes sense. Device can't upload since it can no longer authenticate. My issue is with recovering the notes created in the time between when the account was locked for password reset and when I realized the mobile device was not syncing. I am new to the service and really enjoy it! I'm working to get it implemented as a paid premium service for my organization at work. My newness is probably why I can't figure out where the local files are saved on my mobile device, or how I might transfer them off/export them so they are not lost when I update my password. My expectation is that, when I update my pass on the site, my mobile will need to close its current session to re-authenticate thereby losing anything in the current session. While I could work around this and do not mind the time to do so, I would like to first confirm that there are no other options. Again, I'm looking at implementing this as an enterprise solution and it would be helpful to note the approved resolution. Any help appreciated. Again I did attempt to search the forums, faq, and 3rd part communities but cannot seem to find a clear answer on specifically exporting the unsync'd notes. I also submitted a support ticket, but I think a few keywords I mentioned got me a form reply in regard to the password reset and the ticket was closed (again, understandable given the volume of tickets that I am sure are being worked through, but it did not resolve my initial question). Thanks in advance, - Affiliatenote
