  1. Each time I open the stand-alone Evernote application, the first thing I do is to right-click on the tag view and select "Show all tags". This is annoying. I suggest to add a preference option that allows users to set this behaviour, e.g. ( ) Always expand tags
  2. So I requested a feature where I wanted the ability to view the hierarchy of tags in the sidebar. Little did I know that this feature already existed--I needed to turn it on. I overlooked it as a menu option under View | Sidebar Options. To a certain extent the menu is not designed to explain the feature. It's there for easy access. I think Evernote could use an advanced preferences window where context and descriptions of features can be offered in addition to providing one place where everything that can be controlled is available to view and understand. An example of Jetbrain's software preferences windows. They create very feature-rich IDEs (integrated development environments) and their preferences windows offer everything in one place. I find that if I do not understand some of the actual menu buttons in the IDE or if I do not know where to find a specific option, the preferences window offers me _a bit more_ guidance and descriptive text. This could really be an opportunity for Evernote to better discuss the many features in Evernote. And to be clear, I'm not suggesting Evernote needs more features like Jetbrains (which makes sense for their audience). Just a better way to review all user controllable options.
  3. This issue has been a thorn in the side of many for years now. So I thought that rather than keep banging on about it in various different threads, none of which are specifically about this problem, I'd start a thread dedicated to it. The ability to configure toolbars on almost every app that runs on a Mac has been a standard feature of Mac OS X for as long as that OS has existed. Those who have used Macs for longer than me can possibly recall if it was present in OSs before OS X. But Evernote, for some reason that I have never been able to figure out, bucks the system and insists on having a non-configurable toolbar. And I have never received an answer from any Evernote employee as to "WHY?" On my Macs, ranging from Macbooks to iMacs, so from 15" up to 27", the toolbar is largely empty (a victim of Evernote's unhealthy obsession with "unclutter"). But not only is it largely empty, it contains buttons that I will NEVER use and don't want there (such as the "New Chat" button), and it does NOT contain buttons that I DO want on there (such as "Email Note" and "Print"). So, could somebody from Evernote PLEASE explain just WHY the toolbar is not configurable, when it is a virtual standard feature of Mac OS X? Why was that decision made in the first place? And could somebody from Evernote PLEASE consider changing this ridiculous situation? What on earth is the use of having toolbar buttons that I would never use, while not being able to put buttons on there that I WOULD use? And of course, everyone is different - we need the ability to customise that toolbar for the way each of us uses Evernote. While I accept that those who post here on the forum would be only a tiny handful compared to the total Evernote user base, we are fairly power users, and loyal Evernoters. And you can't just assume that the other 99.9% who do not post would have views that differ from those who do. So, if anyone else feels the same way, please convey your thoughts on this thread, and for Evernote employees who read this thread, please PLEASE tell the powers-that-be that we want our configurable toolbar back. Oh, and the ability to get rid of buttons such as the "Chat" button on the iOS version (iPad) would also be nice, if we turn Chat off in a setting (that isn't there, but should be).
  4. I'm about to do a clean install on a new Mac. Is it advisable to transfer the Evernote preferences from the old to the new, and if so, is it just a matter of copying the old plist file? Or am I better off doing it manually?
  5. I am new to Evernote. I did a quick search of the forums but did not see anything there that pertains to my question. Is there a way to make another font my preference when I type a note? The automatic default seems to be Arial. How can I change that? Are there other preferences that I can set for my notes? Thank you for suggestions.
  6. I use EN on a MacBook Pro running Yosemite. When I make changes in Preferences - like turning off keep EN Helper running in the background when I quit - when I go back to look it is turned on again. Also, when I exit EN it doesn't provide a login, and I have two factor configured. It use to. Somewhere along the way, one of the updates, it no longer requires me to login. I have to actually sign out.
  7. I loved EVERNOTE in the beginning and now that I was trying to use it to organize my Apparel Production projects, it is clipping everything I open! Overriding my browser so that I cannot view anything in original form, but makes another NOTE!! What is happening? I deleted it after almost throwing my laptop out the window!!! What happened to EVERNOTE?
  8. I have EN 5.3.1 on Win7 desktop. Where are my "Preferences"? Screenshot shows my top and left menu bars.
  9. Hello, First post, hope this is in the right place. Searched around and couldn't find a resolution on the forum. I have been using Premium for awhile now (and love it). I use the Evernote Clipper (is it called helper?) in the menubar in mac OS X to screen-capture images in some of my pdf textbooks for use in working documents, specifically MS word. What I do is take notes in word, screen-capture an image in Evernote, and copy image into the document. When I'm finished with the document, I flatten it into a pdf and upload it into Evernote to be categorized and searchable, etc. So the original image is not important, only the end product which includes the image. The issue I'm having is that every time I clip, the image gets sent to my inbox. I want to send all of the images I clip to a local notebook, so that I can save storage space. I know you can change the default notebook to upload to... but I only want images specifically captured with the toolbar clipper to go to a local notebook. I like everything else to go straight to the inbox. I also use the web clipper for a variety of things, but I want its default notebook to remain as it is. I guess my question is two-fold: first, is there a way to set the toolbar clipper to send notes to a local notebook, while keeping the default notebook as is? Second, if that is not possible, can I quickly move added images into a local notebook after clipping them without eating away my allotted storage? For example, could I clip an image to the inbox, but then quickly move it to a local notebook before the note syncs and counts against me? I could probably just use screen capture on the mac, but that defeats the purpose of Evernote, right? Hope that is understandable... Thanks so much if anyone has tips or input!
  10. I just started using Evernote and am finding it very useful, but I find the interface a bit bland. I'd love to be able to assign background colors to individual notes so that they can be grouped/listed by that if desired. I use Evernote mainly to hold client information (names/address/phone etc) for potential appointments for my business before I actually put them on the calendar. As I work in several different areas of the state I live in, having colors would easily identify groups for the different areas. As it is now I have to read the individual notes to see this information, and I'm not much of a speed reader. Colors would speed things up. I can imagine all sorts of scenarios where this feature would be useful
  11. Firslty, I apologise if this is a simple thing for some, but I don't seem to be able to find a way to save my Skitch images as other than PNG files. In the older version of Skitch 1.0.12 I had a myriad of output file choices, but I have been unable to find a way to change the default. It doesn't appear under Preferences, and the tab on the bottom middle of the Skitch window no longer is there on the newer version. The drag function of the image out of the Skitch window and onto an e-mail or the Mail icon is clunky and often doesn't work first time either, which is just another bug bear I have. To drag and drop requires multiple attempts and then it seems to "stick" in the e-mail. The main reason I want to be able to control the output of Skitch is so that both I and others have a file format that is flexible for me/them, to use. If I attach a great Skitch to an e-mail but my recipient doesn't know the workaround to open the attachment in Preview and then resave it as a JPEG, which is such a pain, then it is quite a limitation. If there already is a thread regarding this I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction. The difference between the functionality of 1.0.12 and the new version is like chalk and cheese, and I haven't experienced such reverse functionality before.
  12. Hi, I'm using Evernote on two macs. Every time I set a notebooks as a favorite in the sidebar or set a preference like (show note counts) I have to do that in both machines. I'd love a feature that syncs Evernote settings/preferences between machines. Can't be hard, Evernote is already synching I'd say. Thanks for considering. Jan
  13. Hi, Ioften find that when I am using evernote I frequently am adding to the same notebook several times. So, I might be cruising for recipes one evneing, but find quotes for my book another day. Rather than choose just one notebook as default, I would like a choice that let me select the last one used. I.e., DEFAULT NOTEBOOK: laqst used. Cheers, Michael
  14. There have been a number of requests for Evernote to provide more user options/preferences, and to provide more up-to-date documentation. Recently in the Evernote Windows forum (see below) a solution was provided by an Evernote employee (Peter) for setting the image file format to JPG. To select this option requires the user to edit the Windows Registry. First, I would like to thank Peter for providing a solution for those willing to edit the Registry. Unfortunately, many users may not be comfortable with making changes to the registry. So, Peter's post prompted me to ask for the following: Provide more end-user options (like image format) under Options/Preferences Using the Windows Registry is great to make the option available ASAP But it quickly needs to be exposed to the UI for both EN Win and EN Mac (remember the Mac does not have a Registry) Update the Evernote KB immediately when previously unknown instructions are provided by Evernote employees (or maybe by anyone) When an EN employee provides instructions to the Forum, perhaps they could also notify the editor of the EN KB to add the same info.
